AFFIRMATIONS for self improvement?

2

I have an uncomfortable physical symptom in my mouth and tongue. It prevents me from speaking confidently and comfortably.

If I want my mouth to feel good should I specifically mention my mouth in my affirmation or would that only bring more attention to it?

Thanks for this question, i appreciate peoples honest questions. I would say – Yes include them. I think your awareness of your symptom is so great, that you focus on that itself, and that exacerbates and issue you have speaking because your concentration has now gone to your symptom, and how well you are doing speaking, when it should be focused only on the speaking.

Using positive affirmations, may condition you to accept the symptom, (which is only a symptom and is not you) and then you may spend less time thinking about it and you may accept that and begin to be able to focus more on other things, such as speaking itself.

when you use the affirmations, watch your feelings, see if you get nervous or anxious or angry or sad, when you repeat affirmations regarding your mouth. if you do, question where that comes from, there is a good chance the thoughts are irrational, you should challenge them – ultimately you should be able to say the affirmation and feel a smile =)

here is a nice quote from a psychological journal that has really helped me to focus on ‘the task at hand’ and not at how i think i am doing –

“People who are too concerned with how well they are doing will be less successful and feel less competent than those who focus on the task itself…Some psychologists call it the conflict between the ego-orientation, or between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation… but in all cases, what counts is whether attention is turned away from the task at hand and focuses on the self and its future rewards, or whether it is instead trained on the task itself, the latter attitude seems to be more fruitful.”

Much love

Why not?

Affirmations are positive statements about how you want to think, feel and behave. To do positive affirmations, you need to eliminate the negativity around you. You must believe that you can do things. That’s enough :)
