I have one spot on my desk that I put my bills in, and I sit and pay them every time I get paid. I also have a notebook that I’ve made a grid in, that lists each bill I have to pay monthly, and the months. I fill it out every time I pay something, so I can just at a glance see if I’ve paid them or if I forgot something. It’s easy to add in and keep track if I have a certain bill I only pay for a couple months (like a dr’s bill or something), and I also write the check numbers (if I write checks for the bill) next to the ammt paid.
I’ve built a folder on Excel to help balance my checkbook and keep track of my savings.
I keep all of it there in the one place, and set a time to do it every 2 weeks when I get paid. I’ve never missed a payment on anything or forgotten to pay anything when I keep track of it all this way.
In the past I have gone to the Dollar Tree store and bought those big square plastic organizers and then went to work in my closets and kitchen cupboards, it works for me.
I have a place by the computer where I place the bills that come in the mail. Since the computer is used to balance the checkbook, this works for me. I have shelves on my computer table for my checkbook, envelopes, stamps, etc. I also have a drawer for scissors, tape, ink cartridges, etc. After paying the bills, I have a filing cabinet next to me on one side that I file everything in. The other side of the computer is where my paper shredder is…this cuts down on a lot of paper clutter and garbage. I installed some shelving in a closet in the guest room (leaving a small space for hanging guest’s clothes) and this has helped a lot with storage. When I buy furniture, I try to get stuff that has drawers such as my end tables. The biggest help in keeping organized is to periodically go through things and get rid of what you don’t need. Good luck.
