I don’t think it is the religion itself but the theocracy that prevents it. The punishment for apostasy is death. If you want the people to be able what religion or any religion to recognize, you would have to get rid of the religious regimes.

Desiree…when are you going to accept that you live in a religious world and no matter what you say or do it is going to be like that until the day you die.
I’m not saying it will always be like that…but for your lifetime you are stuck living in a religious world. Accept that, maybe smile a little, and enjoy life.
Sure beats the hell out of being so bitter here on R&S everyday.

Islamic doctrine demands a tighter stranglehold.
on another note, do you have a problem? you sound very bitter all the time. it doesn’t really make atheism look very appealing if that’s what happens to someone.

It just happens that in Many Middle Eastern countries, there is no separation of Church and state; it’s an old tradition that will take another century of wars to dismantle it.
Leave it alone. Please.

it’s not necessarily about geography or ethnicity.
The middle east of 700-500 years ago was more progressive than Europe was at the time, for instance.

fmko ( ??????????????) @ 7:34 pm #

no…its funny…in Europe the trend has been…leaving Christianity…becoming an atheist…leaving atheism…becoming a Muslim…

dude @ 10:50 pm #

I would say yes. Definitely a difficult situation, I don’t really know how to answer the rest of the question.
