Are work ethic and motivation elements of being smart?

Do you think that part of being smart is having good work ethic and motivation? Or do you think that intelligence and smarts should be based soley on IQ and similar things? Explain why. (This is a debate between me and somebody I know)

As much as I believe in the importance of work ethics and motivation, I don’t think it has to do with being smart.

It all comes down to the idea that even the most basic people know right from wrong, that whole thing.

No, they are not. Smart is a synonym for intelligence, which at its core is the ability to learn.

If you have a goal of being successful, then it is smart to develop a good work ethic and a high level of motivation. But that is different. It is using your “smarts” to realize what it takes to succeed in the world.

I’m very motivated and have excellent work ethics, but I took one of those online mensa tests and realized a genious I’m not…..
