Hi. I’m a type that gets things done ahead of time, but I need a plan. I’m not very good on my feet at the end, and I envy people for that. Here are some tips I use to get things done on deadline:
I agree, give yourself at least overnight to sleep on it, read it again, and edit before submitting it.
Set an “artificial deadline.” If the item is due on the 15th, pretend it’s due on the 14th. (This means you have to get the final draft to review done on the 13th.)
Schedule time. Sometimes the last thing I want to do is work on a project. But I set aside an hour a day, etc. to do it, then “reward” myself with activities I like to do. For example, I say I’ll work on something from 6pm to 7pm, then I can have ice cream or watch TV at 7pm.
During work time, turn everything else off. Turn off the phone, IM, and TV. Tell people not to knock on the door. It’s only an hour! The world will keep on spinning without you. ;)
Have a deadline buddy. Get a friend working on the same or similar assignment to make sure you are staying on schedule. You do the same for them. Help each other, but don’t cheat! (PS-This works great for college essays!)
Don’t beat yourself up, panic, or give up if you are behind or miss your scheduled work time. Just get back up on the horse. Don’t play stupid, and don’t play lazy–you can do this!

I’m the type that does things at the last minute. In the end, it can cost me alot. No matter how hard I try to do things ahead of time, I just get lazy very easily. For now on, I will do things piece by piece. To start with, always finish your works cited page first before you type your actual research paper.

For assignments, do an outline or a rough draft when you first get the assignment. Then walk away from it for at least a day before you come back to edit it. You’ll gather more thoughts during that time and notice mistakes that you perhaps didn’t notice before.
