Comments on Attention Artists! How Do You Keep Your Workspace Organized?
Lots and lots of shelf space, drawers and tool boxes. Also an artist’s “tabi” which is a roll around, three drawer organizer that sort of unfolds on a long hinge.
One shelf on my long desk holds over 200 CDs and DVDs containing my software, reference discs and some of my music. I have spindles of archived CDs holding old projects and photo archives. Currently I have about a half dozen 100 disc spindles and, of course, a couple of spindles of fresh, unused CDs and DVDs. Two shelves of various kinds of paper stock. Four shelves of printed reference sources like books and magazines, two shelves of various manuals. A whole rack of shelve containing camera and office equipment, not including my scanners and printers. Two shelves of office supplies, two shelves of computer gear and sound equipment, and several shelves of miscellany.
Add to that a four drawer and a two drawer file cabinet, and the drawers built into my desk. A closet full of frames and mats and a half dozen tool boxes (one for airbrush supplies, one for my sewing supplies, one full of color markers, some smaller took kits with portable drawing materials, etc) A couple of briefcases and a raggedy old messenger bag.
Just glanced over my shoulder and spotted my sewing machine and opaque projector on another shelf. And to my right, is my seldom used drawing table where stuff just seems to pile up.
I “feel” organized enough if I can see enough floor space to reach my computer.
I try to stay organized by simply keeping things in separate cups. Pencils in one, erasers in another, paintbrushes in another…As for paper I just keep my notebooks to the side, not really organized in any particular way. But it works for me.
i keep my pencils in my penpot, and my paintbrushes in my bottom drawer with my palette. my water pot is in the kitchen and my paper and notebooks are in my room. my artwork then goes in a special folder of mine.
I’ve organised chaos, everything is everywhere but I know where everything is and they normally have a place, even if it’s on the floor.
A large wooden box where i can pack everything into, tie paintbrushes and pencils together with elastic bands and its worth investing in a couple huge portfolio cases to put all loose drawings and sketches in
i have one of those little plastic file drawer things..i keep my pens and pencils on a cup on my des and put everything organized onto the shelves
im so unorganized that sometimes it takes me a while to find my supplies haha but im okay with it, tho it would be better to be more organized
As long as the paint is as far away from my hair as possible, I’d consider it pretty orderly.
its called organized chaos my friend
