My whole life is based on goals. For instance, I want to own and fly a helicopter before i’m 45. Setting goals for yourself is a necessary process in achieving business success. It is only through meaningful and motivating goal setting that you can have TARGETS to aim in your business and see progression.
I believe that by setting yourself goals, both short and long term, your life takes on meaning and purpose.
Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go,they merely determine your starting place.
The purpose of goals is to focus your attention on your future. Magical things will begin when you set them.
Your power to accomplish becomes a reality when you have a goal. Your mind reaches toward achievement when it has clear objectives. Goals give you a starting place and a destination. Just focus the full power of all you are and on what you have a burning desire to attain, and you will achieve success. Act on your dreams and they are yours.
I believe it is very important especially if you have a family.
When i was single , i never used to – i just lived for the day.
I have a funny “ritual” , every year , in Dec/Jan when we are usually driving home from a holiday ( we usually just go to Durbs to visit the fam) we think back on the year , the ups and downs , and then we make a list of what we want to achieve for the year ahead , and i tick them off as the year goes along.
No definate time -lines or anything , just a general list of what i want to accomplish that year…
It is commonly thought to be more fun to travel than to arrive.
But without a goal, how do you know where you’re going?
Also, without goals (long and short-term) you deprive yourself of the wonderful feeling you get when you achieve one.
Call your dreams your long-term goals and set short-term ones to achieve your dreams.
I think it’s important. Goals help you sort out your life, from wants to needs. Just focus on short term goals for the time being. It’s not wise to worry about long-term goals because you’ll get so far into the future you’ll forget about the present. But don’t get so caught up in your short-term goals that you’ll forget to live and have fun. No one should miss out on life.
No every old years eve my husband and I write our goals for the New Year down in a little book, not impossible goals, but realistic ones, and we make sure we reach most of those goals. I think it is a good thing, we never write/set a goal that seems too impossible to reach eg. buying groceries in zimbabwe during June 2008 for instance.
I definitely do… it has nothing to do with me being a weirdo though. Thats another thing all on its own.
I think it at least motivates you. Fallen hasnt been sleeping for a month now working his @ss off editing and putting together music videos so we can have a car and healthy bank balances and so he can start up his own production company. A lot is sacrificed and emotions tend to run high, but having set these goals we do need to achieve them because no one is going to guarantee us a better life. Do that… you’ll be amazed at how much you can achieve when you’re set on something. Since grd 10 my dream was to work for this company. I finally got a foot in as a receptionist and applied internally for my position. I told myself I’d get the post before the end of the year and I did. I showed interest and came up during my lunch hour to do some pro active work til my current colleagues were impresses enough and set up an interview…
I take my Dad’s advice,
Take care of today first,
Think about the short term,
And the long term will take care of itself…
I think goals are important or else life would be meaningless. We’d be living without a purpose. Goals give meaning to our everyday lives.
oh yeah it keeps me motivated
