Anger is a secondary emotion to hurts, pains, disappointments, confusion. These feelings stem from childhood. To deal with what they’re unconsciously really angry at, they have to journey back to their childhoods and deal with the real cause. A long painful process, but it only works if the angry person really wants help.
Yes, anger management works. I’ve worked with a few formerly abusive men who have gone through the programs. Some who’ve succeeded in self-understanding have taken it upon themselves to facilitate many of the workshops that are directed towards “angry people”.
The movie Anger Management is nothing like how these programs really work. Rather, it’s a long healing process that volatile people undergo. They are supported by a therapist, and the anger management group they’re assigned to. They implement individual counselling as well as group therapy.
Some men have realized that they’ve let their anger control their actions, and are now feel ready to “end the pain”, so they search out the programs which can help them. However, some of these men were court mandated in to the program.
They are also taught not to suffocate these feelings, but rather to channel them in a positive way.
an angry person is an angry person, deep breathing helps me out but when im surrounded by trusting people i feel the most ok-est
Contrary to the first answer, anger is NOT always a loss of control! Think about this: why is it that people can USUALLY control their anger in public situations, where they know they’d get arrested if they hit, or even threatened some jerk? Yet, when they get home, they “lose control” (riiight!) and hit their defenseless kids or wife?! It’s because they ARE controlling their anger and deciding when they can get away w/using it and when they can’t.
This is why anger management classes and techniques can work. But they only work if the person SEES they have a problem, as with almost any other psychological problem. People, especially men, who are conditioned to see anger as “macho” or “natural to men”, are less likely to even recognize that anger is ruining their lives and the lives of those they care about.
Props to you for asking about it! I hope whomever you’re asking for gets the help they need.
Here’s some links to studies below. There are tons more…just type in “Anger management studies”.
Anger management is essentially used by people who have difficulty dealing with their anger, e.g, expressing violent behavior, anger induced self injury, etc. . For the average person who can deal with anger in a healthy way, it’s probably not that effective. The most effective way to deal with anger is allowing yourself to feel it, then letting go of it once you have done all you can to correct the situation ( if you can- otherwise, acceptance is the next best alternative) .
I tried it but its not helped me!
