Does Progress Imply An Ideal World Set As A Goal To Reach? Or A Belief That We Are Somehow Improving In…….
relation to yesterday? How can we know things are better unless we have some idea of what better is, metaphysics?
If so, what do we base improvment on?
How can we really say things are better then before, and not just different?
One can always find negative and positive aspects to any situation.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Imagining that the sequence and consequences of our lives have any universal impact seems beyond reasonable and yet if we fail to put a value on our actions we fail to work.
We become non-contributors to the good in the universe. We fail to insure the survival of those morals and values that keep our human lives and the lives of our future children livable.
It is not our individual survival that is important to the universe since we are so infinitesimal but we are “part of the soup” and the flavor rises and falls with the whole.
Are we better at this point than when we burned “witches” at the stake? We still kill the people we are afraid of.
Are we better now than when we did not know the value of hot soapy water? We still sell porn and we still cuss.
Are we better now than when many children were fed like dogs after the meal and got only the scraps from their own parents tables? We still allow hunger and poverty in the midst of luxurious abundance.
Still my feeble brain says yes we have made progress.. We have gained each time we saw the path upward and took it.
