Does Yoga Help With Anger Management?

I have a fairly bad temper, and was considering taking yoga classes for the exercise. I was just wondering if it might help my temper too? Thanks in advance.

Yoga is definitely a really great start for anger management. The great thing about yoga in comparison with other forms of exercise is that it really increases your sense of self-awareness. In my opinion, the more in touch with yourself you become, the less likely you are to be affected by the outside world which means that external circumstances won’t cause your temper to flare up so much.
There are basically three ways that yoga can help you in terms of becoming a calmer person. First, you will get the benefit of physical exercise which serves as a healthy outlet for anger. Second, you will get the benefits of deep breathing and relaxation techniques which will help to give you an overall sense of calm. And finally, as just discussed, you’ll get that benefit of really being in touch with yourself so the outside world will be less capable of making you angry.
I would suggest that you use a combination of different types of yoga classes to achieve the maximum anger management benefits. There are fast classes (like power flow) which will give you the benefits of better exercise and then there are slower, focused classes which give you the other benefits.
It may also be helpful to combine yoga with other exercise (like cardio, particularly out in nature) as well as with other stress reduction techniques (such as journalling or meditating). And it may be worth it to see a counselor to further get the issue under control. But yoga can definitely be a good start!

Yoga and Meditation
These are Eastern arts just like aromatherapy and, like aromatherapy, have been around for thousands of years. People in the West tend to want to hurry everything along, which can be one reason why we are so much more stressed than people in the East. Yoga involves a series of stretching exercises that are designed to allow you to concentrate on something other than yourself. Meditation is the process of clearing your mind of negative thoughts and concentrating on nothing. Both are equally effective at calming you down if you understand how to use these techniques towards alleviating stress.
Yoga and meditation work pretty much the same way as exercising, cleaning and counting do to relieve stress – they draw your attention away from the stressful situation and to something else. This is the secret to controlling your stress – to focus your attention on something that is either positive or neutral. Once you have learned how to use these different techniques to alleviate stress, you can then work on controlling how you react to stress.

I believe your on the right track. Traditionally, exercise of any form can help with depression, anger, aggression, etc. I found Karate very beneficial, you can kick the stuffing out of a bag and release a lot of aggression and not hurt anyone including yourself.

i would think something more drastic like karate, kick boxing, boxing, rock climbing would be more helpful.
yoga is good for at night when you are trying to relax before going to sleep.
