i haven’t personally but i have an idea of what they teach you/ tell you:
here is what i know:
1. when you are angry, imagine the thing that is making you angry as a huge black space in your mind. You have to visualize the thing that is making you mad as an object and not a person or emotion.
2. Visualize a small pinprick of golden light, (this symbolizes your will power to stay calm, and not get irrational) Slowly in your mind, see this light getting bigger and bigger until it totally takes over the black space.
3. While doing this try to put all thing out of your head, and don’t think about anything else.
4. Some people might find it easier to calm down if they take a walk up and down a corridor (etc)
5. When the light is totally occupying your mind take 10 deep breathes. Do not try to think/remember what was making you mad and just think about the present.
hope this helps! i can’t say whether it was helpful as i have never had treatment for this condition

no, was sent to the nut house, classes only work for sane people; yes, learned really fast I wasn’t as crazy as I had thought, and decided I could control myself~ there are some truly crazy people in this world!

I’ve never had extreme problems with anger, but the three weeks of anger management therapy I received in 2003 changed me as a person. It sounds cheesy, but you really have to keep an open mind throughout the treatment. If you’re someone who struggles with anger daily, you might really benefit from it.
We discussed things like communication, self-control, types of emotion, what anger really is (where it comes from and how to recognize it while it’s being formed), triggers, /more/ communication skills, alternative forms of release (i.e., other than fists), positive self-talk!, ‘cooling down’ and probably body language, too.

As a therapist, I can tell you that “anger management” is really just about finding different techniques to handle your anger when it comes up.
Instead of breaking stuff, yelling, or going on a rampage – you work to find ways that are “healthier” in managing your anger. There are lots of techniques, and you need to identify what works for you.
Some people:
1. Deep breathing
2. Yoga
3. Stretching
4. Jogging
5. Visualization
There is a wide list of what you can do, but you should only try what you are comfortable doing.
