How can I find motivation to do anything- that might help me break the horrible grip of extremely debilitating depression?

Exercise, absolutely. You also need to have social interaction outside your house daily.

Exercise. It releases feel good hormones (endorphins) into your blood stream and gets rid of tension. Go for a run. Start running slowly and every now and then do a sprint at max pace for as long a distance as you can handle. You’re feeling trapped? Think of this as running toward an open door and just go for it. It helps a lot of people, you will not be the first.

Motivation follows action. So if you want to get motivation, action first. Don’t wait until motivation comes.You will probably keep waiting for ever.
So in a nutshell, action. Do a small thing first.
Don’t overwhelm yourself. Don’t distract yourself. You need to correct your inner distorted thoughts.
