label makers are a great help. You can label where everything needs to go in baskets, cubbies, files, heck put a label on the phone that says “phone”.
When you get used to what goes where then you will be faster to clean up and organize while working. Usually on the left is “In” and on the right is “Out”. Start the flow of your work from the left and finish to the right.
And try to update to a flat panel monitor (if you don’t have already) because the gives you TONS of space and you won’t feel so crowded at the desk.
Pens, paper clips, stapler should always be handy in the middle of the desk.
designate one drawer for office supplies so you don’t have to hunt around for a new pen or fresh paper.
sticky notes are great but if you get time, just type up all of your sticky notes information onto a Word document and print. You can cut out the info and then put it somewhere on your desk. It will look neater than the handwritten sticky notes, and you will be able to get a “one stop shop” to find you info and not take all your time trying to find that certain sticky note with the info
Every Friday take time out to dust your desk around the computer. put the keyboard up and get all the loose paper clips, dirt, whatever gets under there and clean up. When you come back to your office on monday (assuming this is for a company office) then you will have a clean work desk. If you are a home office, do the same thing. Designate 1 certain day a week to clean up dirt and garbage that accumulates on your desk. It will help you think more clearly with a clean work area.
Important daily files need to be kept on the desk, you can use file separators to do this (called a step file). other files need to be kept in drawers away from the desk. When you use less time to find a file, it is a more efficient desk
Best of luck. once you get your desk organized, you will feel less stressed too because you don’t have 100 things to look for, be worried about, or move in a work day. Everything will be easy for you to grab and put back which will make your work flow more efficient.

A place for everything and everything in its place.
Designate places for everything, and put them there.
