How Can I Know Whether My Cat Is Happy Or Unhappy?

2

My cat has a mouth disease (not sure what it is) and it hurts her to eat. She does eat, but not a lot. However, she can be the most loving cat I’ve ever seen, and she purrs a lot. Does this mean she’s happy or do cats purr for no reason? I don’t want my cat to have a miserable life. I’d rather have her put down than hurt all the time. I love my cat and hopefully your answers will ease my decision. Thanks.

Though we mainly associate purring as a sign of happiness, it’s also something they do to comfort themselves when they are in pain or distress. Even dying cats or ones giving birth will purr to soothe themselves.
Cats are experts at hiding signs of pain, because it would make them vulnerable to predators or rivals. The best thing that you can do for your cat is take her to a vet so that they can examine her mouth and provide the necessary treatment. A vet will only recommend putting a cat to sleep, if they feel that they have no quality of life left.
You love your cat and do not want her to be suffering, so please make the vet appointment a.s.a.p.

If she’s purring that means she’s sated and in a comfortable environment. However you need to find out what that mouth disease of hers is and ASAP or she won’t be purring for long. That’s a serious condition.
