How Do I Set A Weight Loss Goal?
I’ve been overweight my whole adult life to some degree or another, so now that I’m dieting and exercising, how do I know what my goal is? I don’t know what I look like weighing 140, 150 or whatever. I don’t know what I look like as a size 10 or 12. And furthermore I don’t know if I would be willing to do what it takes to maintain the lifestyle of me in size 10.

Comments on How Do I Set A Weight Loss Goal?
there are various formulas out there on how to find your “ideal weight”, one way is 100 lbs for the first five feet and 5 lbs for each additional inch, another is 118 lbs for the first 5 feet and 3.5 lbs for each additional inch. So for example, I’m 5’2”, so my ideal weight would be 110 or 125 depending on which formula you use (I’m not 110 or 125, but supposedly I should be) . But just because this is supposedly the ideal weight doesn’t mean it’s what will look best for you. You have to take your frame size and natural body chemistry into account here. Find a BMI calculator and set your goal at whatever weight will put you back in the normal weight range if you are currently over weight. If you are eating healthy and exercising, and you lose the weight slowly, you should not put it back on. So if you’re finding it a constant battle to maintain a size 10, set your sights a little, well, heavier, until you find a healthy weight that works for you. Good luck hun!
You may want to join a gym with a membership (Like Curves) that will help you set a goal that’s right for you. It really depends on your age and height so you could possibly get information from your doctor.
But, remember, you should always be dieting and exercising. It’s very good for your health, but I’m sure you already knew that
Set goals that you can achieve. Don’t try for something you feel is unrealistic. Try going for 3-5 lbs in a month, if you can do that, try to increase that amount but you don’t want to loose too much each month as that will set you up for failure as you yo-yo up and down. It’s a conscious choice to set what you can do and then once you’ve gotten into that routine then it’ll help to set you up for long-term goals. Make a food journal and exercise or activities that you do that give you positive results. Understand them and work them into your daily life.
Good luck!!
You need to be realistic when setting your goal. Saying you want to be a certain size or weight means you need to be dealing with real numbers for you.
To be healthy, you need to eat right for life; lean meats like broiled chicken, fish, no fatty foods, no junk, no sodas. Drink water, eat veggies, eat fruits and exercise daily…walking 20 minutes a day is great.
What do you mean you don’t think you are “willing to do what it takes”? This is your health! Get real here, do you want to have all sorts of health problems? Do you want a miserable life as you age? Think right and do what is good for you, you are worth it, don’t you know that?
Smaller rations, daily exercise be creative, drink 8 glasses of water with ice, change gradually , and only plan to lose 2lbs a week dont get stuck with unrealistic expectations
