People with low self esteem tend to treat themselves badly, not care too much about their appearance, or dress in a way to grab attention. We treat people the way they present themselves. If you don’t appear to care about yourself and are sloppy and put yourself down a lot, I probably will not take the time to get to know you. I will treat you with resepect because you are a fellow human being, but I probably won’t find you interesting. I have high self esteem although I had to learn that. I used to have low self esteem until I woke up one day and decided that the problem with the way people treated me was the way I was treating myself.

As someone who struggles with insecure feelings though people are always commending me about different things, I can tell you from experience that usually people tell others with low self-esteem to “get over it” or “it’s not that bad”.
