How do school-age children develop a realistic self-concept, and what contributes to self-esteem? What as a classroom teacher can you do to help a child with a low self-esteem?

Start with praising them, but do it the right way.
Don’t just say “What a great XXXXXX”, say “What a great XXXX, I see you did YYYY and ZZZZ to enhance the effects”.
Also, give them some task that will challenge them, but they are still able to do, they will feel satisfy by accomplishing it.
Make sure they are not tormented at home or by their classmates.

They develope a self esteem based of what other people think of them. if people tell them they are worth nothing that is how they feel. you should say to a child with a low self esttem that they are a great person with many qualites and that they should not worry about how other people view them and they should be good at what they are good at. They should join a club in somthing they like to do.
