How does one create better time management/ delay procrastination?

3

Lately, I have been on a busy schedule and have not been able to sleep as much as I want or have not completed the tasks which I wanted to. How should I deal with this issue? Generally, I see myself wasting an unnecessary hour on the Internet. I may go from site to site or section to section. But it is tempting. How do I deal with this?

I just remembered to make a (written) schedule. But what are other ideas?

I try to reward myself in some way or another for getting things done on time (or early). Like tv watching time. or hanging out with friends.
I set time frames to do “procrastinating” things like being on the internet. I will say “Okay I have to be off in ten minutes”. I think one of the main things is to be aware of time and remind yourself that you are on a schedule.
Set aside time to answer emails. And if the phone rings- don’t stop what you’re doing and answer it until you complete your task. Tell people that you are studying (or whatever) from 4 till 6 and won’t be answering your phone.
Try to use checkmarks when you complete things. It helps motivate you. And don’t put sooo many things on one list. Only put the most important things first and maybe something you can get done a little early.
Set aside time to sleep. If you’re anything like me- you need sleep to function and stay healthy. If you find yourself thinking of everything you need to get done or didn’t get done- try relaxation techniques to help you sleep at night.
And most IMPORTANTLY: Realize that “your inbox will never be empty”. There are going to be things that you won’t complete. That’s life- BUT you can get to the important things.
No matter what you do today- the sun WILL come up tomorrow. And you’re not alone- everyone deals with this at some point or another. You will figure out you’re own time management skills. ;)

I hope this helps a little. The biggest thing is that you realize theres not enough time in life to be stressed during all of it.

Well, making a to-do list was GOING to be my answer till you stole it =P But something to add to that is to give yourself reasonable time deadlines. Next to each item, write what time you HAVE to do it by. Or, put that before you do XYZ, you first have to finish a certain task. Place a post-it note on your computer saying “Have you done your list yet?” LOL I had “Do Crunches” as my desktop wallpaper for a while. It helped a lot!

That’s really about it… a schedule… well maybe that’s not the only way, but it’s easy to make and it is effective if you stick to it.

I did one for myself because IM in college and I seem to put off homework and some other things, then at the end of the day I feel like crap cuz I wasted my time.

I started at 7:00 am, and went in 1/2 hour incriments, so as the day went on I filled in what I did…. not into great detail just enough to hold myself accountable. It seems like an inconvenience at first, but it really did help me, I think you would benefit from it.

Give it a try
