How does someone remember to pick up after themselves?
I’m not asking about the action itself, but about how does someone for whom tidying up is not a natural thing develop techniques for remembering to do so. In specific, I’m thinking of cases where someone with little need for cleanliness lives with another person who has a strong need for an orderly home. However, answers for someone simply looking for self-improvement would be useful as well. Thanks in advance.

Good question…even i cant answer this one!
Im going to think about this one…i’ll be back!
I have no idea because i have been trying for years to motivate my husband to be like that. So if you figure it out it will be a best seller and all us wives will be lining up to buy it
Put it back when you’re done using it.
If you notice something out of place, put it away. NOW
Don’t ever leave trash laying around, put it away immediately.
Use a big stick, applied directly to the forehead, to remind this person when they forget.
I think the best way would be to practice. First of all, I don’t think suddenly becoming a neatnik is probable. I would start out with one goal per week, like “I will remember to put my dirty dishes in the dishwasher.” Write it down, and make a habit of looking at it once in the morning and once in the evening. Write down whether you met your goal at the end of the day. Making a specific goal, writing it down and keeping a record are good ways of reinforcing behavior. Once the action becomes a habit, move on to the next goal.
