How to get my motivation back?
Five years ago I was a diligent student. I used to get excited while studying, I used to have dreams about being a linguist etc. But I changed since then. Now, I am a PhD student also a teacher. I have to study and work hard but I do not have the slightest wish to do anything. It’s been like that for years now. I don’t know how I managed to survive all this time idling. It’s really a wonder to me how I even finished my MA. I’m never satisfied with what I do, and plus I don’t try to be better. I want to be better but I don’t do anything to change it.
Oh, sometimes I get so desperate. I want my motivation back, I want to have that excitement I had when I used to inquire everything and learn new things.

you might have depression talk to your doctor
I understand completely… being in much the same position. Sometimes its all about forcing myself to get back to work or have motivation for all kinds of things. For me I’ve found a number of different tricks, and sometimes they work

and let me know if anything works really well for you.
listening to more music during the day (like when you wake up, or come home from school) and music that gets you pumped is often helpful for getting motivated, the same goes for having a crazy all night party… for some reason that resets the clock for me and helps me focus afterwards. Getting some physical activity is super helpful. Switching your tasks or chores up works too. What I mean is maybe write for an hour, change your setting and read for an hour, then move again and pay some bills or something… I find doing several tasks over the day keeps me awake… but maybe the best thing is to set little daily goals and a list, and check things off… when you see the checklist it is motivating to try and check something else off.
Anyway, working on a PHD is tough, and much different from a Masters. Good luck finding your motivation
cheers…
You have to look at several factors to determine how they could be affecting your motivation. I would say that first off with your daily schedule of working and also being a student, you probably don’t set aside anytime for yourself (you probably think there just isn’t time for that). No matter how much you have on your plate you must incorporate ME time into your life. This is time you set aside for yourself to do something you like and makes you feel good about yourself. I would also examine areas of diet and exercise because they play such key role in our well-being; and if lacking in those areas, you will have the tendency to feel ‘run-down’ and unmotivated. And finally I would say although you may have come a long way in your studies are you lacking the motivation maybe because you have lost your initial enthusiasm for the subject, or because you want to just be done with it? Sometimes we can want something but not have the patience to attain it and have that ‘wish I could be done with it already’ kind of attitude.
And you may also want to look at who’s around you and how these people contribute to your social and emotional well-being, you never know how other people can effect you and impact your life in either positive or negative ways.
Take some time and examine what’s going on with you and around you and the answer to your problem may not be that hard to find.
