Go though everything. Make 2 piles, donation and trash. When you are done sorting things. Take the donation stuff to a goodwill or other donation center.
Clean the whole room, windows, floors etc…
If you have shevles use them to store items. You can also get some under the bed storage boxes for misc things. Space Bags are great for sorting out of season clothes and bedding.
Things you would like to keep but don’t use put in storage boxes and put them in the attic or garage.

You can get organized by learning a little bit more about yourself and what you want from life.
Why is it important for you to be organized?
Do you want to feel more in control of things?
Do you want to have less things to look after??
Do you want to be in control of your environment instead of having it in control of you?
Do you want to feel comfortable in your space instead of stressed in your space??
Here is a simple model for “getting organized”
S-P-A-C-E
S = STRIP take everything out of the room! this is a good time to clean and paint or whatever you want to do to make it fresh and new again
P = PURGE you need to go through everything that you took out of the room and decide what to keep. You cannot and should not keep everything. A flow sheet for the purging process is available on my website.
A = ASSESS your needs. Of all the things you have left, what are your storage needs. Are they little items, large items, mostly clothing or mostly books and videos……….only you can decide what you might need for storage. You will have to assess if vertical or horizontal storage is best for the items that you want to keep and if you want that storage to be open or closed.
C=CONTAINERIZE Purchase the necessary containers to hold the stuff you need. This might be vertical shelving or a dresser or a closet system , or plastic storage bins.
E = EVALUATE once you have everything back in your room and in its proper place make sure you evaluate how it is working and if it is not working change it. Any organizing system must be user friendly!
