How to get over fear, sloth, and poor time management skills?

5

Hi.

I live in a small town, and have been home-schooled (although I think my education is lacking and that I’d benefit more from going to regular school, but I don’t due to laziness and fear) my entire life, so I never really went out and did things.

Due to this, I’ve developed a rather lazy personality. I know that I should go out and interact with the world, but I don’t.

Due to my lazy personality, I’ve developed poor time management skills (for example, I might spend four hours on the computer, two hours listening to music, and only an hour doing something that’s actually productive).

Due to laziness and poor time management skills, I’ve developed a rather powerful fear. Fear of being judged. Fear of continuing down this path of nothingness. Fear of failure, mostly.

Now I’m nearly an adult and I don’t have any friends (unless you count family), I don’t know how to drive, and I don’t have a job.

I want to change things, but I’m stuck in this lazy, fearful rut and I know that while it will be hard, I can get out of it. I just don’t know how.

So any advice that anyone can give me will be extremely appreciated.

Thanks.

Figure out a way to make a commitment to yourself, then keep it. For example, you can draw up a schedule for yourself. Give yourself 1 hour of free time for computer/music or whatever, and stick to it. There are free stopwatches you can download off the Internet and time yourself on the computer. They have an alarm so you will know when it’s time to sign off. The more you stick to a schedule you make for yourself, the easier it will get.
As far as getting out there in the real world, start small. Start by taking a walk around the block every day for a week, then the next week add another block, then another the next week. Once you’re feeling comfortable with that, start walking in public places, like a shopping mall, where you don’t necessarily have to interact with anyone if you don’t want to. Once you get yourself comfortable with these things, you will start to be more comfortable with the idea of making friends or getting a job. But please do it. You only have one life to live, so live it for goodness’ sake!

I don’t think it’s because your lazy, I think it’s because you don’t care and you don’t believe in yourself… laziness is a way of life and not a personality quality. You put the laziest human being on the face of this earth, in South Africa where he will starve to death if he doesn’t plant crops and he will work for 14 hours a day to bring him food… you put the laziest person on the face of this earth out on the street where he has no blanket, pillow, or winter jacket… and he will work for 16 hours a day to find a job… The problem is not your character as everyone has the basic personality traits: the problem is your way of life and your living conditions… and your failure to believe in yourself…

First thing you need to do is decide to accept FULL 100% responsibility for yourself!

And head in the direction of independance, then working as a group (full of independant people)

Soooo many people, if not every one on this planet has felt like this at one time in their life, and unfortunately most are not brave enough or have access to the information or the support to help them.

The internet is a great tool, and you’ve taken your first step of many of your journey of success!

Start looking into personal growth and self development.

Here are some names which I have learnt from:

Brian Tracy
David Deangelo
David Allen
Napoleon Hill
Richard Bandler
Tony Robbins
Shaun Stephenson (awesome dude in a wheelchair with a rare bone condition)
Stephen Covey

Google, watch youtube videos, read articles and ask questions, if you can, also buy their audio programmes and books (or Torrent them if your cool with that kind of thing – make sure to buy them though when your a big sucess :) ).

One last thing I want to mention is this… there is ALOT of GOOD information out there, once you’ve found it and seperated it from the noise and BS, MAKE SURE you actually USE it!

So many people read a great book or hear something awesome, and then wonder why their lives aren’t working out, they end up blaming it on the product or information saying it doesn’t work… all they had to do was apply it and stick with it consistantly. So many people are walking encylopedias.

I recommend for every 1 hour of learning you do, you should spend atleast 2 hours reflecting on it and applying it to your life.

Best of luck to you.

I deal with the same troubles from time to time. I drive and work and all that, But I don’t really go out much. I don’t really have any friends. The only real advice I can give you is the same that has been given to me from family. Take it one day at a time, And if an opportunity comes your way do your best to go for it. It’s easier said than done. If you never do act on the chances you’re given then your rut in life will never change. That’s just how it works.Maybe you can find one thing you enjoy doing & try to involve others maybe like minded people will be of help. You could go and see a doctor for help with possible depression? And if you are overweight that can make it harder to feel motivated or to have the strength or confidence to try. I should take my own advice more. I guess just know that you are not alone in the way you feel. Good luck to you and I hope things change. For both of us. One Love. (
