Declutter..that is the best thing you can do…and I find if you are bringing in a puppy, you must baby proof the house to make it safe for puppies too. Good luck on your organizing and hope you can get a new puppy.
Decluttering is definitely the first thing you’ll want to do. Get down on the floor at the level a dog or puppy would be and you’ll be able to clearly identify areas that need to be taken care of. Make sure there are no electrical cords the puppy can chew, ensure everything is picked up off the floor.
Go into each room with 3 bins labeled Keep, Throw Away and Donate. Set a kitchen timer for 15 minutes and concentrating on that room ONLY go through and sort all items that don’t belong in that room within the three bins.
When the timer goes off, dump all of the items that are garbage in your outside garbage, place the bin labeled items in your trunk to be taken to the donation center the next time you are in the area, and the items labeled keep, determine which room they need to go to and place them there.
Yes, declutter.
Get rid of anything and everything that you no longer need or use.
Take it to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or use Freecycle in your County. http://www.freecycle.org/
Organize closets and shelves so you have a neat and orderly place for the things you do want to keep.
When a dog or cat comes into the house, everything should be picked up and placed in inaccessible places so they cannot get to them and start chewing.
Then once the whole house is in order, you need to keep it that way by always putting things back in their place.
