You need to spend around $200 for a beginner’s guitar, either acoustic or electric, and another $100 or so for a small practice amp for the electric guitar. Below that price you will buy a guitar that is unreliable and will hold you back. Go to a good music store and try a bunch of them until you find the one you like best. Acceptable brands are Epiphone, Fender, Ibanez, Yamaha, and others.
Don’t forget to take lessons. Good luck.

The best kind of instrument for a beginner is always a used one! If you’re just learning the basics, haunt your local thrift shops and see what you can find. You may need to go to a guitar shop and buy new strings for it, but you will likely be able to find a decent guitar used.
In fact, ask around at church or school. Someone may be willing to loan you a guitar for 3 months. Then you can see if you want to buy even a used one.

can’t say”best”, but I started out on a “WOODS”. It’s a chinese-made guitar, probably not the “best”, but 6 years ago, I gave 225 for mine, 65 for a gig bag, stand and sheet stand about 30 bucks. I never take it off the stand, and in this long a time the neck has never warped. It has a Maple neck. When it goes out of the house, it’s in the case. You need central heat/cool to keep temps.steady. Now I also play a “TAYLOR” and a “MARTIN”, unfortunately, they are both more susceptible to temp. changes. There aren’t but 2 or 3 companies that actually build them for the whole world, so even in a “cheap” guitar, you get the technology that has evolved and some of the “tweaks” that go into the higher-priced brands.
