I Need Help With My Own Self-improvement.?

10

I have officially decided that its time to revamp my image and my capabilities, and I’m tired of being mediocre at everything. I cannot tell if this is an identity crisis or the fact that I simply haven’t been able to truly realize that perhaps I just don’t understand the order of things. I’m afraid that I dream of big things and great accomplishments but am cursed with none of the abilities necessary to do them.
I started at football in High School, yet I was always jealous and disheartened by those who had the natural physique and skill to be college worthy. It just made me angry that in the grand scheme of things that some kid, not due to any work ethic or greatness of his character, was blessed with the genes that allowed him run faster than me and lift more than I could.
In academics, I was always frustrated that I simply was too bored, too angry, and too lazy to excel in the high school education system. I was again jealous of those who, though lacking in physical capability or social skills, had in my opinion a set life ahead of them just with their raw intelligence and academic work ethic. I always felt as though if I possessed that kind of intelligence, my goals would be clear cut and the direction of my life simple.
Socially, I do not charismatically take over my situation.
I have a fairly difficult time small talking, and I’m in no way getting the joys that I see so many of the socialite pretty boys at my school enjoying, particularly the attractive women. I could never manipulate others or convince people to follow me.
Now High School is ending, and I get a fresh start in college. What should I do, work on my weaknesses or fortify my strengths? Should I tone down my own self-improvement rhetoric? and just accept that maybe I’m just a mediocre person destined for mediocre things? Or am I fine, and merely just need a change in environment?
Anyways, I’m going to college on an ROTC scholarship, so I’m going to be in the military. Perhaps this is my avenue for excellence. So perhaps merely recommendations for success in college or military is all I need.
thanks.

2Lt MP @ 1:31 pm #

Aight Slick here’s the deal, I’m graduating college in the ROTC program, I’m about to be a 2LT, hence my nickname. Youre issue here is clearly self-confidence. How I got past this a LONG time ago was I forced it aside and made myself do something that was completely outlandish. It doesn’t matter what it is. It could be as small as walking up to one of the hot chicks and start talking, it could be something as big as throwing Youre own party or running through your school ***-naked. That might get your cadre a bit pissed(they’ll laugh their asses off after you’ve left the office because they’ll think its funny as hell, in a good way) at you, but it will get you noticed and it will kill your lack of self-confidence on the spot. Go to the gym, workout more, go running. Improve your body however you want to, hit the books, learn to do something. I’ll tell you this the longer you sit on the internet thinking about this and avoid getting your name out in public, the longer and harder its going to be to actually get up and do something about it.
Chances are you are already a really chill guy… you just don’t know it yet.
Remember this, you’ll never be able to lead soldiers unless you can lead yourself first.
You wanna know what really ruins someones college experience? college itself. ROTC takes up no time compared to classes and homework.
To Nick:
Nick I’m sorry but how would you know about any brainwashing if you’ve never even been in/around the program. The opinion of one person who quit isnt really a basis for any manner of intelligent conclusion. Non-ROTC college kids think the military brainwashes people just like high-school dropouts think that college brainwashes college students. Think about it Nick, you have no factual basis for squat.
The only thing that gets people is if they don’t pay attention to the contract they sign. Its the same as if you were signing a contract for insurance, a house, a car, etc. You wouldnt sign any of those without reading the fine print either. And if you do, its your own fault if you get screwed.
“The only thing that ROTC will lead to is death.” Really? how about the hundreds of thousands of retired officers who are currently in another career/enjoying retirement. There are more homicides in Washington D.C. annually then there are military deaths in 5 Afganistans.

Write down things you have to improve and do them before playing or resting (okay, you can rest in between but don’t rest to long or rest just a few moments from doing your goals)
Have a good day!

Hailey @ 5:47 pm #

write down all the good things about yourself

Sarah Townen @ 7:29 pm #

i think it’s good that you are able to pinpoint the areas that you are not pleased with
that’s important to identify
just saying that you are unhappy doesn’t really get to the point
what i can see is you are unhappy with yourself, while at the same time feeling ripped off by the ‘gifts’ that others have.
perhaps you can look at it this way…
* yes there were football stars that had natural ability
* yes there are people who are more naturally inclined towards academics
are these the same people? probably not
so realize that everyone struggles somewhere
if you are mediocre at everything, well hell! you’ve got me beat! i am good at somethings and HORRIBLE at others….so you need to give yourself credit where credit is due
college is a nice way to be able to have a mini-new-start. i’m not saying that everything is going to change BUT there is opportunity for change
i think mainly you need to look into issues of jealousy and anger. that’s where the bulk of the problem lies. also looking into issues of self esteem would be good, i think realizing that not everyone rocks at everything might help you feel more on the same page with everyone
best of luck

ROTC ruined someone’s college experience my left a$$cheek.. you know what ROTC does? gets you up 3 out of 5 days a week to work out… gets you physically strong. you go to one class a week(ms1 or ms II) or two days a week(msIII or ms IV) plus a lab, you lose ONE/TWO WEEKEND(S) a semester for a FTX. you can still party, get drunk, and destroy stuff just like any other college student, I would know. If someones is stupid enough to let ROTC(Oh by the way, which is just like a frat or sorority) ruin your college experience then you probably belong in greek life like the rest of those burnt out retards who spend hundreds of dollars paying for their friends. I’d rather earn mine thnx. I mean he is clearly too smart to stay in ROTC and keep his scholarship and pay no loans after college as opposed to borrowing money now and be in debt for the next twenty years or so. Chaco, 2LT MP up there said everything I would have, I just wanted to put some myths about ROTC to rest. oh one more thing. anyone in ROTC can drink any frat boytoy under the table any day of the week
@MSU’s response to me
ROTC is a choice genius. I would rather get up at 6 and get my workout out of the way and get an early start on my day/free up my day then set aside two-3 hours during the day that I could be using to study/get to know people.
Finding ajob in this shitty economy is going to be hard.. granted. But at least MP up there and I don’t have to worry about that. US Army does have one thing: Job Security. we get employed right off the bat after college. concerning networking? there is no more exclusive access to priveleges and opportunities, even in the civilian sector, than there is available to people who are in the armed services. 1% of the US serves, but the majority of people support us. I plan on going law enforcement after I get out, and I already have connections with my local Bureau because I’m in the military. So brilliant Argument
A government law enforcement job huh? any LAW ENFORCEMENT essentially works for the government, the establishment. Stop trying to make yourself sound fancy please.
Yes the military can lead you to dangerous places, but you will never find a group of more tightly knit, loyal, and professional group of people than those who are constantly put in harms way. especially those who are protecting the rights of people like you NickMSU who don’t appreciate what we do. I’m willing to bet that on 9/11 you were a proponent of doing something about it when thousands of Americans lost their lives. But not anymore, Huh?
If you truly supported the troops you wouldn’t have included the word “death” in any sentence concerning the military.
Stop playing the future job card. The army takes 4-8 years of your life, outof the average 80 that a person lives over his/her lifetime. After you make the choice to get out, you can make your career off of your own merit or through connections just as you could if you weren’t in the armed services.
No soldier worth his boots is ever going to hold himself above those he serves. Thats why its called “service.”
I never once insinuated that I’m a better American because I’m going to serve. I insinuated that I’m a >Stronger< American because I’m not easily turned by turned by the word twisting promises of a perfect world. So you don’t misunderstand what I’m saying, liberty and freedom come at a price, the vast majority of politicians(from both parties) don’t have the wellbeing of the citizens at the very top of the priority chart, and any soldier who revels and smiles at the thought of war clearly has never been there.
Every college says that they are training the leaders of tomorrow… …right EVERYONE is going to be a leader if they go to college. Tell that to the first 15 years of your career. ROTC trains you to be a leader amongst leaders, ROTC trains you to think independently, you can’t have brainwashed leaders who do everything they are told EXACTLY how they are told. That destroys what a leader truly is. The military would have failed decades ago if this was the case.
One year after you commission, after you finished your specialty school, you are given 40+ people to lead and guide. Who else has that opportunity in the civilian sector.
I’m off topic chaco, sorry. I’ll stop posting

no vanilla for me @ 1:14 am #

You should strive to do the best that you can do at everything you do no matter what. You should not compare yourself to others, whether others are doing good, or bad. You should always do your best, and if your best happens to be better than anyone else’s, but yet, you are still capable of improving, then you should still try to do better, but, if your best happens to fall below others best, then you should lay down at night with a proud smile on your face and a comfort in your heart knowing that you have done your best. At the same time, if you are capable of helping someone else improve, and they want your help, then and only then, should you help them. But, by the same token, you should not be afraid to ask for help from others who are willing to lend a hand, but you should never expect anyone to complete your task for you, and you should never do anyone else’s work for them.

NickMSU @ 6:26 am #

Dont stress it… College is a lot easier than you think. You will make friends right of the bat. If not try joining a fraternity or some clubs because you meet lots of cool people. As far as ROTC goes, I have a freind that was in it and then quit. It sucks and ruins your college experience. He had a full ride with it to and now hes just taking out loans. Do what you want, just have fun! Best 4 years of your life!!!!!!!
In response to Alex-
ROTC gets in the way of everything in college. Girls, Drinking, and even education. Who wants to wake up at 6 3 days a week to run for 2 hours? Focus on your education and meet people. The more people you meet the better chance you have at finding a job in this shitty economy. And he did drop ROTC and is now in a fraternity where hes working on getting a government Criminal justice job. And he got that job through a fraternity alumni. The only thing ROTC will lead to is death. Have a good brain washed life while it last!
As far as I go… I have saved lives in the past when i was a lifeguard at a wave pool. Dont try and make your self feel like your better than every American because you joined the army. I do appreciate the army and everything our government is doing for us. But if your smart and you can get a job as a federal agent (my Ex-ROTC buddy) or an Oral Surgent (myself) then do it. ROTC is good for certain people. For my friend it was not. For this kid maybe. But dont get brainwashed into their B.S. that they love to pull. Be a leader in life.

Hello. Your future is very bright. (I evaluate you from the material you have presented.) Purchase “Think and Grow Rich”, by Napoleon Hill,
today. Please read the first chapter today or tonight. “The Master Game” by Robert DeRopp is also important to get. USA right now is going through a major crisis!! Sensitive thinking people like yourself
are experiencing emotional negatives from outside themselves. Successful people 30-40 years your senior have suffered enormous LOSS which in a convoluted way is your gain. Report back to me as soon as possible. You are a winner but you may not know it.

CrYsTaL_ @ 6:21 pm #

Wow…
Quite a lot of writing from you.
Honestly, I know nothing about military life or whatsoever.
But then, does not mean to offense you, from your writing, I can see that you are really day dreaming.
For me, as a third party, it seems that you never do your best in anything. Like in study or sports and in the end, you will only got jealous with those that you think are better than you. But have you realize their hard work. Or maybe they practice and study harder than you are.
And for girl, I don’t think it is too difficult to make them attracted to you. You just need to make a small conversation with them. Hey…the worst is you got rejected them. And the same time, there are so many women that you can find, not only those who already reject you.
Back to military, I think it will be more discipline than high school.
My suggestion is just do your best in everything and you must want to get out of your comfort zone. Don’t ask for someone else’s sympathy. The more you ask, the more you will get nothing from other people.
Good Luck for your college then
God Bless

I see a lot of which you mean since i couldn’t get people to follow me but i did it by getting to know the peoples feelings so if you can convince them you can have people to follow you. I worked on my vocabulary and it is now more powerful in my use then ever. A powerful leader does not have to be a tyrant but only a man who understands his people and what they want. To become so great you must first work at it and that means it relies on your will power.Your will power relies and nothing but you and if you decide to or not cause just like you i am to lazy but i overcome my laziness with reason, reason that is of my own purpose and will all have a purpose. Some stronger than others. Some have a purpose strong enough for them to go and do cleaning work around the house or some have only enough to hit the alarm clock and go back to sleep. Now reach high and choose a magnificent goal that none other has reached and that be your purpose.Find out what you need to do to get there. Find out what to do by what the people need and you need to know the people to do that. I won’t tell you what to do because if you have a great day or not,the choice is YOURS!
