Motivate who?
The goals I would set for this nation would be to return it to the principles of the Founding Fathers and the documents Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Federalist Papers. The men who founded our nation new what our government should be and they were willing to die for it. Government today does not understand this. Its about lobbyist and special interest. If I were president the only special[ interest I would have is that of the american people. When you have Arlen Specter stand up during the illegal alien amnesty debate and say on the floor “I have gotten alot of calls against the amnesty bill and those calls dont matter.” you have government out of control. Our Declaration of Independence says when a govt does not adhere to its people then that government should be abolished. Those in power are not listening to us. We fight one another and are angry at one another we call each other neocon or socialist and never stop to say well wait what do we agree on.
For this very reason as president i would first disband political parties read the first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. Our educational system should make manditory a knowledge test of our founding fathers and the documents that made this nation.
I think a goal would be to secure our borders in so doing encourage legal immigration and put an end to second class citizenship of illegal aliens. We are a soverign nation of laws and those laws should be obeyed.
I thin a goal of this nation should be to find all sources of reliable energy to get the prices down for consumers are being gouged at the pump, their electric bills and the home heating. Solar, Nuclear and yes more drilling. Whatever it takes!
I think we should make Supporting the Troops a battle cry and we should demonstrate it from the time in battle to the time at home. We should update military housing, fix the hospitals and when a soldier comes home and wants to go to college we should say just tell us where and we will take care of it. If they come home in a casket having given the ultimate sacrifice then we should take care of their kids
As far as war when you go to war you fight a war you dont administrate a war you fight it. It always has amazed me why people not on the front lines are telling front line commaders what to do. In a normal war you go you kick the enemies butt then you come home thats the exit strategy. The war on terror is different as how can you claim a clear victory objective. You can not win a war against an idea especially when this idea is world wide
Economically we must return our money to the gold standard and thereby make a dollar worth something again.
These our goals I would set for our nation
Im nicole james and i approve this message lol

You have to put current problems first–so a focus on developing the alternative energy sector. That’s pretty much a no brainer. BTW–when Obama says in his ads this will create 5 milllion new jobs, most people think he’s exaggerating. I’ve seen the mid-to-long term industry estimates. Obama is being conservative, not overly optimistic.
You mentioned “man on the moon.” we’ll have to start from scratch-with at least 3 other nations ahead of us.
Except for the last few Shuttle flights, the US no longer has a manned space program. NASA is trying to work on a capsule type system (like the old Apollo) so we can at least send people back and forth to the ISS. But the funding to build it isn’t available, and they’ve pushed the earliest flight dte back to no earlier than 2014-5. IF they ever get funding.

Well for starters we’re ALREADY prospering. The United States represents over 1/4 of the global economy, and despite the recent downturn over the last 2 years, we’re still doing pretty good all things considered.
But to answer your question……something to make me proud to be an American even more than I already am? Simply putting America FIRST is what would make me proud to be an American. I would have absolutely NO PROBLEM with pulling ALL of our troops on foreign soil back to the United States, cutting off 75% of all foreig aid, 100% of all military aid, and telling the world that in exchange for us no longer being world police that they can forward all requests and complaints to the United Nations. Spend US tax dollars HERE on tax payers to improve the lives of Americans.

The goal of having the federal government conform its activities to the Constitution.
If we actually did that, I suspect the National Debt would be paid in about five years, both interest rates and inflation would decline, growth would improve enough to provide jobs for anyone that wants one, which wouldn’t solve the entire issue of illegal immigration, but resolve one sub-problem of it, and improve our educational system dramatically.

Reinstating progressive taxes on the wealthy, culminating in 90% income, capital gains and estate taxes on anyone making $1,000,000+ per year. This money would be used to start up green, alternative (solar and wind) energy programs and F.D.R. style public works, manufacturing and infrastructure projects. The greatness of the U.S. came from the strength of our manufacturing and labor forces, not from a fascist kleptocracy.

To find a solution to global warming, and turn sea water into drinkable water and bring in into the Nevada desert and creating forests, etc
To help Africa and Third World getting developed and rich, so that poverty disappears out off the surface of the Globe.
And so on…

I don’t agree with the premise of your question. The US is the best country on earth. We have a prospering economy. To continue to grow, we have to get rid of government interference in private enterprise. Everything the government does costs us money.

robrobii @ 7:22 am #

How about balance the budget by the end of the first term?
How about make sure every american has health care?
How about eliminate poverty in America?

John Galt @ 12:47 pm #

Get rid of all welfare in this country and end Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, food stamps, etc.

rhino9jo @ 2:22 pm #

Energy independence with ALL green methods. It won’t work otherwise.

Stop funding Israel until they make an effort to stop their bullshit.
