funny!
It just takes something from within I guess to begin.
Here’s what I think you should do. Pick an evening when you have some time. Get something you like to eat or drink, find some music you like to listen to, put on your comfy houseslippers, and just tell yourself you are going to turn off the computer, turn off the TV, turn off the cell phone, and read. It will be fun! instead of like drudgery or homework, it will be a rewarding evening spent reading a book that you have chosen that you think can help you.
The hard part is just beginning. Once you have begun, you will like how it makes you feel to accomplish this first little promise to yourself.
The journey of 1000 miles begins with one step. Take that one step. make it happen!

Funny question – but so true. I have found that in order to find the motivation to bring about change, I have to attack it from a number of angles:
(1) Be ready to make a change. Depending upon the change, don’t try to do it when your life is a complete chaotic mess. Things like weight loss, smoking cessation, sleep patterns, etc can take a lot of energy. You will need to have your wits about you, and you will have to have extra focus and energy to draw from.
(2) Have a specific goal in mind, even if it doesn’t make sense to anyone else.
(3) Visualize the end results – more than just positive thinking, here you can create the results in your mind.
(4) Read, read, read, read, read. Don’t just pick up the first book on the shelf – find one that talks to YOU and your issues/ goals, etc. That’s why there is more than one book/author on the subject.
(5) Use a lot of positive reinforcement. One good step toward change results in a reward.
(6) Use a lot of positive self talk. “You are worth it…you can do this…it’s not going to hurt that bad…” lol
(7) Enlist the help, encouragement of others. Find a partner who will help you on the unmotivated days
Bottom line: You won’t change without a reason. Either it’s for you, for a loved one, to prove a point, whatever. Find that reason, and you can slog through even the most saccharine of self-help books.
By the way – it REALLY helps to find others in the same boat. That’s why self-help groups are so popular. Weight watchers, 12 step groups, cancer survivors – they all have commonality and community. Go there. Open up. You will probably find a bunch of other people who can’t get motivated either.

read the review of the book given on the back cover page, and know the background of the author. You will be motivated.

Maybe you would feel better about audio books. Just listening is all you have to do. I recommend Brain Sync; they have a lot of different “therapies” and you don’t have to do much. Check it out.

Put in more effort.
Good luck finding the book. I’m still looking for “Coping With Low Self Esteem For Dummies”.

In order to gain motivation, a useful method is to provide yourself with logical reasons that provoke a response. These are truly effective when they scare you. What do you want to change? Look up reasons why what you’re doing is harmful.
