People shoudl be more generous towards people who ask about Hawthorne’s, The Scarlet Letter – it’s like cutting through a d@mn jungle in an expedition with blindfolds on trying to read his writing.
The scaffold. Most definitely. At least that’s what my AP Lang teacher stressed constantly – how the story centered around it.
The scaffold was the start of the madness, where Hester saw her former husband from, and VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT: it was (ironically) the only place where Dimmesdale could find peace with himself. I forget the other major scaffold scene. but I’m sure you get the main idea :P extrapolate.

You should really read the book and then answer your homework questions.
