Is There Anything To Be Happy About In America This Christmas?

16

This has been the worst year and the worst Christmas season I can recall in my entire life. Wow…talk about a huge freakin’ disaster in every possible way. Everyone seems depressed, very few people are happy, stores don’t even care to decorate anymore, nobody sends cards or says “Merry Christmas” and the change has just started. And I keep reading predictions for 2010 and they are all saying it will be far worse than 2009. God help us all!

We’re celebrating another 1.5 million undocumented aliens in the country over last year, in addition to new waves of young people now openly practicing homosexual behavior.

Yes, there are plenty of reasons to be happy. Your happiness should not depend on the state of the economy or what political party is in power. These are very volatile things to base your happiness on. You and your family are alive and together. I’d say that’s a reason to be happy.
The test of ones character is not how they deal with the easy and abundant times of life, but when one is forced to do without. It will show what you truly value in life.
Hard times have a way of making people refocus on what is really important and can bring people together. Abundant times, although great, have a way of doing the opposite.
For those that predict 2010 will be worse, remember this. Good news will get some viewers, but devastating news will get people hooked. People will do what ever they can to know what is going on if they feel their well being is being threatened. Much of what is being said is being said for profit.
I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas!

Why, yes, there’s a LOT to be happy about.
The world economy is beginning to recover, having NOT completely tanked.
The country is no longer run by criminals, but, for the first time in my life is run by people who want to make things better.
The country is no longer in violation of law and every principle of human decency, since we no longer torture and rape people.
We’re FINALLY dealing with the problem of environmental destruction, and our dependence on fossil fuels.
We’re FINALLY getting the health care reform we’ve been begging for for decades.
It’s simply a lie that everyone seems depressed, few people are happy, and stores haven’t decorated.
It’s a lie no one sends cards. People are exchanging season’s greetings as we always have.
I know of NO predictions that 2010 will be worse than 2009.
I guess things are different on whatever planet you live on.

Yes, there are reasons to be happy in America this Christmas. We are celebrating a season in which the spirit of giving overcomes the spirit of greed that overtakes us the rest of the year. It is a season in which we recognize our shared humanity. It is a season during which I have seen the very poorest people I know dig deep into their pockets and share with those who they see as worse off than them. This holiday season is a time to gather with your friends and family and share your love, the best gift of all.

I agree with you. I don’t feel any Christmas spirit anymore. For 3 years, I work in a Muslim country and the government ban Christmas holiday due to religion conflict. Until today (24th December 2009) there is no decorations, no christmas carol and definitely no events for Christmas celebration. It’s like a funeral here.
Like you said, God help us all.

Welcome to the Great Depression 2.0.
It’s not only a economic depression, but a mental depression also!
I thought we were told they would never make the same mistakes that got us into the first Great Depression. The run up to this one was the same crap as before- overinflated housing, people having more debt than they could carry, overinflated stock market.

You haven’t lived very long have you?
Don’t know where you hail from but I have yet to hear a “Happy Holiday” from anyone.
Everybody is saying “Merry Christmas” again. (the fact that I wear a red Santa hat, may have something to do with it)
Start a trend where you live. Slap a smile on your face and say Merry Christmas to everyone.
You just might be surprised at the results!

you live in the land of the free – oh wait
Well you live in the land with the best health care – well you used to anyway
You have your job – unless your one of the 1 in 5 that doesn’t
Damn you!
On the serious side I hope things get better for you in the new year.

You are freaking pathetic and ungrateful if you truly feel that way.
Even with the financial difficulties Americans still have a lot to be grateful for…
we don’t have bombs falling on us daily, almost everyone has access to clean safe water and food.

How about the birth of Christ, who paid the penalty for our sins, and turned the wrath of God away from those who accept his gift of sacrificial love? I thought this was the point of celebrating CHRISTmas.

Dependency on a material christmas creates a necessity for criminal activity to enjoy the magic of the season.

I live in Florida, where the city and state income tax is 0%, so generally, business is doing well down here… So i’m happy…

liberals have made it so it isn’t “politically correct” to be happy at christmas

Yeah, yeah, yeah… everyone wants a white Christmas until they get one.
Some people are never happy.

God, but you’re a pessimist. I’ve just gotten back from our lavishly decorated mall–you can’t take more than two steps without running into a tree, a Christmas ornament, the bookstore has a stand with all the Christmas books they can cram into it. Everyone was in a good mood, smiling, helpful–even when you had to stand in long lines people were so polite and friendly. When my feet finally hurt so much I couldn’t take any more I sat down and enjoyed a wonderful Peppermint Mocha Trio. Now I am home, exhausted but happy, and listening to some soap opera where they’re singing ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’–and very beautifully, I might add. I’ve sent and received wonderful cards from friends and family all over over the world–even Israel and am now getting ready to wrap my gifts. Maybe I sound a bit like Pollyanna, but to paraphrase, if you look for the negative in mankind you’ll find it. Instead, you really need to look on the bright side and find Christmas in your heart.
