PMA…Positive Mental Attitude. Good or Bad?

3

We are always taught to think positive about everything no matter what. We are always told to approach life with a “glass half full” mentality.

Isn’t this the worst kind of self deceiving lie a person can tell themselves? In the real world, we have good days and we have bad days…there are good things and there are bad things. If you only look for the good, don’t you then completely lose the ability to recognize the bad? Don’t you then start finding the “good” in “bad” without even realizing it?

Of course no one likes a pessimist…but wouldn’t you eventually become one without even realizing it if you spend so much time telling yourself that all the bad things in this life are actually good?

PMA — then becomes premeditated mental anguish. Logical?

yes. i fucking hate the mental stereotypes that everyone shoves down our throats. life cannot be defined as good or bad- there’s waaaay too many ups and downs in between to see everything as “life with the glass half full.” that’s just ridiculous, something our school teachers and parents have fed us to try and make us the same malleable grey happy blob that just… exists. and does nothing else. and i think that’s the worst tragedy of today, is trying to lump everything into two categories. it’s getting people to not process, to not feel, to not think, and have complete lack of emotion. if we can’t recognize the bad anymore, then what can we consider “good” if we don’t have anything to compare it with?

This is a message given to sales people, religious cults and other Christian organizations like the Krishna Consciousness Movement.

Yes, it is a false message if you are brainwashed into the plastic smile and glowing eyes. At the same time, it is a valuable asset to have in your box of social tools. Sometimes we just don’t want to socialize or deal with people and learning how to “be a phony” put on the plastic face and think positive is a fantastic tool to have at your command.

Life is not exciting, boring, interesting, or anything else. Life just is. We bring our thoughts and judgments to life and make it exciting, interesting or boring. Take a depressed person on a bungee jump and they will be depressed about the whole situation. Is the situation depressing or exciting. Neither! Believing is seeing. Change your mind and you change your world. Lose your mind to a smiling cult and you have been manipulated.

I’ve always been a Pessimist & it has worked for me yes my glass is half empty & the flip side to being a pessimist is I can see the good when it’s there. Because I’m always waiting for the shoe to drop & when it doesn’t I feel good Ironic isn’t it? So I don’t have to worry about ever becoming complacent lol
