I just finish Russell Simmons book “Do You!” It was awsome. I was very inspired by it. I’ve also started reading “The Secret” Both books stresses the power of positive thinking and the mind being very powerful. I’ve trying to be positive and so far it’s going pretty well. I’m just afraid that it want last long. I guess that’s a negative thought I shouldn’t be thinking. =) I was looking for some advice on how to have long term positive thinking and having a positive attitude. I’m trying to recondition mind and the way I think. Any good tips?

I’m a shift leader at a restaurant at an amusement park. Half the times I work, I have to manage a nearby restaurant, because the shift leader that works there never shows up, so I end up working open to close. People constantly ask me questions left and right, and my manager can’t be bothered. My manager never orders enough supplies, so I’m basically trying to stop a bunch of disasters from happening all day. (people running out of rolls of change, running out of bread, fries, etc, etc.!!) It’s mentally and physically exhausting and I’m only getting 25 cents extra, but I need the job.. Whenever I work now, I feel like giving up and quitting, even though I’ve been at this shift leader position for about 6 months.

How can I just keep my cool and maintain a positive attitude at work?

How is it done? I think I might have self esteem issues which could be the root of it all. I beat myself up about the smallest things. For example, I saw a pile of clothes that I just unpacked yesterday that I need to wash and I thought “that looks disgusting, I should’ve washed those today instead of wasting my time on the computer.” I can’t look at a picture of me without over analyzing it and criticizing my appearance (I’m a guy too which that’s a weird behavior for a guy). I know I’m not ugly, but there’s just a part of me that makes me so nasty to myself about my appearance. I spend way too much time wishing I was famous just so people would notice me. I make things up about myself thinking people will like me more. It’s a bit embarrassing and it’s getting to be too much and I just want to be happy being me. I don’t want to waste any more time hating myself when I know I’m a great person. What can I do to develop more self esteem and/or a positive attitude?

I am one of those negative people, if one thing goes wrong, I am easily discouraged and shut down. The last few days, everything is going wrong. I caught a cold, I broke out in hives (again), my inspection sticker ran out last month and I need the wiper motor fixed, a sensor is out, it needs a fuel filter. I have not enough money, a $259.00 electric bill due to be cut off on the 29th, the kids start school monday and need haircuts……and to top it off, it has been raining very hard and the roof started leaking, yesterday evening a big chunk of the ceiling fell off right on my bed. Usually I would have shut down and cried, but it is so crazy, I find myself almost laughing about it. I have decided today to keep a positive attitude to see if it works. I am not very experienced in doing so but I will try.
DOES IT WORK?
