There are always those people who are just relentlessy cheery and optimistic. Their lives don’t seem all that different or better than anyone else’s except for their positive outlooks. It seems to me that is just their personality. I, on the other hand, have alway tended to be a “glass half empty” type of person, bordering on cynicism. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean I’m a whiny complainer type, I just tend to view things on the negative (I think realistic) side first. I really don’t have anything to complain about, I just think it is a part of my innate personality to be pessimistic.
Do you think that optimism can really be learned, or is it just something you are born with?

I have diabetes, chronic fatigue, Sjogren’s Syndrome, and Celiac Disease….whew!….
I went through college and got my engineering degree and after that I have just been so sick that when I get work I just can’t keep up with it I have tried going back to school and getting a Master several times and I can’t keep up with that either.
The whole experience has been extremely disappointing and frustrating and I feel I have turned into this grumpy old lady (I’m 28) who just complains about how sick she is. The worst part is that I don’t really think I am that type of person. I used to be a very positive and vibrant person.
Now I have decided to try and regroup. So moved in with my parents and to take really good care of myself for a whole year so I can try to move on with my life once I have better health.
How can be more positive in this situation?

I fully agree. A strong and positive mental attitude can cause miracles. If you exert will power , allow only positive forces to play a role, get rid of all doubts and unnecessary deterrents, some of the most insurmountable and incurable diseases have been cured. I know of even cancer patients , without any hope of survival getting cured like a magic. They had trust in their will power , they had tremendous faith in god and they would lot of worship and meditation. I can give few such examples which I have seen.
What must be happening is their immune power gets recharged , rejuvenated by the tremendous psychological force and that acts against the deadly disease and kills it. No wonder drug is yet invented which can cause such effect.

It isn’t always easy, but for me it’s vital! Positive attitudes keep depression at bay, pity away, and people close. No one likes to be around negative people, and besides, if you fake your attitude, your brain actually believes you are happy and keeps making the wonderful chemicals that keep us healthy! Have a glorious weekend! Annie

There are lots of things you can do to improve your positivity. I suggest affirmations, meditation, physical exercise, and remember that though life is not always perfect everything happens for a reason. Oh and sometimes even if you don’t really feel like smiling, it helps to do that…See if it helps.
There are many books by Doreen Virtue that I believe would be helpful to you also dear.
Good luck

Denial is refusing to believe something. Positive attitude is believing it but choosing to not let it ruin your day, and just roll with it and trust something good will come out of it.
