Self help books about happiness, success, anxiety and depression, etc.
Of the books I’ve read, the information seems to be either common sense or far-fetched.

What’s some good common sense advice and “help” you don’t find in these books?
For example, “You don’t need a book to tell you how to set goals. Just do it.”

Specifically, I’d like to find something that includes recovery of your self image and self esteem after rape and sexual abuse. I can’t seem to stop dieting and hating my body since then, and I could use a little help. It’s ridiculous because I’ve been in therapy and on anti anxiety medications, but none of that has “cured” me and I still feel such loathing for myself. Something, anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

I’m a 51 years old medical professional that has it almost all.

My life is good. Got a good job, money, friends, etc. My life is “set”

I’ve always been a goal oriented person and lately I have none.

Life is boring and “automatic”.

Are there any good books on goal setting? Or how to deal with my goal setting behavior?

Is it normal for a man to want to have goals? I usually look towards short term goals in the 3-6 months range.

I am 26 and going through this “phase” right now where I don’t really look at myself and say”God, Im great” and I really want to feel like that. There’s things I want to fix about myself so I can truly feel like I am being the best person I can be and living the best life I can. But I want some guidance and am looking for some book title. Im not depressed nor do I have a low self esteem…just looking to do some soul searching I guess. Maybe journaling books…anything…
Im looking for non-religious type books…although Im not totally opposed if the books really good…

I’ve been trying to find the perfect anger management book for my boyfriend. Or even one targeted for couples would be good. My bf has a bad temper and he recognizes that he does, that he doesn’t know why he gets like how he does. We can’t afford classes or therapy or anything, so I thought about giving self help a go. Any recommendations on good books?

After seeing Larry King’s show last night on “The Secret” I am interested in what other people have read regarding self improvement for gaining more success and life fulfillment. The Secret to me seems to be repetitive as far as other self help methods plus “Law of Attraction” principles written about from everyone Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, Norman V Peal, The Magic of Believing and of course the Bible is filled with “ask and ye shall receive.” Of course things aren’t always that simple for everyone, especially that people’s mind sets are unique and what works for one doesn’t necessarily work beneficially to others. There are so many self help method books and DVD’s out there now, so I would like to see what you guys have used that made real life changing breakthroughs and helped improve your finances, relationships, goals, jobs, whatever
