It is extremely difficult to have a high self esteem nowadays, since a lot of people think its “cool” to make fun of/bully others. I’ve been trying for a couple of years to bring my self esteem up, but it just doesn’t work. It has gotten a lot better, but every time something good happens that brings my confidence up, it goes all the way down again because of jerks. Any hints or the ways that helped you increase your confidence would be appreciated =] Thank you.

I just ended a relationship with a guy and have absolutely no confidence or self esteem left. He made me feel like I was worthless, unintelligent and not worthy of anything. I am very successful and was popular and ambitious before I dated him, but now his constant harassment and put-downs have honestly broken me and even though we are apart now, everyone comments that I am like a shell of the person I used to be. What can I do.

My whole life school has been hell, and now I’m finally leaving.
My question is, how do I build up my self esteem? I let it be brought down so much by other people. I always feel paranoid, and I’m convinced something is wrong with me.
So how do I build it from literally nothing at all? I need to be strong to survive in this world. I just don’t know how.

I’m interested in practical advice or tips on increasing self confidence and self esteem in particular with guys. My friends and even strangers often tell me that I’m very pretty and smart but when I like a guy, I often don’t have the confidence to believe in myself and end up losing him for what is interpreted as lack of interest. How can I believe in myself more? I am capable and have good friends, the problem seems to start when I like a guy. I’ve had some good relationships but recently seem to have been disappointed in a couple of guys I dated.

Embarrassing as it is to admit, I am now & have always been a jerk magnet. Now at almost 32, I’m finally beginning to realize why I have never been married & why all of my relationships fail so miserably. It’s because I give everything & get nothing in return from men who take me for granted as a result of my poor self esteem. How do I demand respect from a partner without having to ask for it & how do I exude confidence without coming off as cocky?

I mean honestly. In almost every single question I’ve seen. Someone answer’s because they have low self esteem.
Like. Why’d they rob the bank?
They have low self esteem
Why’re they a know it all?
Because they have low self esteem (I’ve actually seen that answer to that question too, no joke)
I mean honestly. There’s more answer’s then, they have low self esteem. I think people say that just to make themselves feel better then other people. It’s all in your mind people. You can say they have low self esteem, but that doesn’t mean it. It just makes you feel like you have a better life then the other people, which probably isn’t true, if you have to keep reassuring yourself by saying other people have low self esteems.
