After John’s brother Joe called 9-11 and cursed the operator before hanging up and calling the police to curse at them directly because he had to sit in traffic, you have wonder if mental instability runs in the family. Can anger issues run in the family?

Hey Im 15 years old and me and my father got together last night and were having a chat, and I said wouldn’t it be cool if someone in our family won an award of high recognition or starting off as let’s say the first millionaire or something, as I am pretty sure my family has none. And so we were talking about that and he said, for the next while come up with some “goals/achievements”
Though this is very high, I was thinking about being appointed to the Order of Canada, one of Canada’s highest honours. It doesn’t require you to go into a “specific” career or life style either as opposed to becoming the Prime Minister , which in most cases need to know quite a bit of politics.
Do you have any other ideas? The thought about this is quite exciting , yet challenging at the same time. For example let’s say the millionaire ,sort of aspect was accomplished by any descendant , ( if this even goes far…) it would be up to them to decide the next goal
Any ideas out there that we could start?
Its good motivation ( the way I see it) and leads for hope in the future.

It may not be a problem with their mental space. per se. Are they on daily medication for some other ailment? Something in which the blood level has to be maintained….such as antiepileptic drugs.
If they are not taking them consistently, then the levels could be out of whack when they do a catch up because they missed a few. This causes the liver to go toxic. The body is unconsciously under stress and anger is a stress release. Without really being mad at you, it is more of a knee jerk reaction to a personal ailment.

we certainly have goals, though long-term ones are in our heads and not necessarily spelled out specifically.
in the short term, we do set goals for our individual kids. i would like to announce the highly successful meeting of this past months’ goals (having the older two kids get ready for school without reminders in the morning and the younger two occupy the car together in a civilized manner without any bickering). i’m thinking the youngest’s next goal will be to complete his not-entirely-concluded potty training; still have to think of one for the older kids.
after each report card, we talk to each kid about one or two school-related goals for the next semester, as well.
we constantly set goals for ourselves as parents (and in other non-parenting areas) as well.
