I sometimes compare my accomplishments in life to others and feel like a failure. This has led to me having a very pessimistic attitude about my self worth and seems to discourage me from setting goals or improving myself. If I make a mistake, I often give up rather than persist in my goals.

I feel so unmotivated when it comes to school. I feel a little ashamed because I go to a community college instead of a “real” college.
I’m in my second year, I enjoy going to school, but when I consider the stuff that I’m studying and who’s teaching it I start to lose interest and motivation.
Right now I’m liberal arts, I plan on doing one more semester here at Monroe Community College, the transferring to a 4 year to major in philosophy, then law school. I want to make it, I really do.
How did you overcome lack of motivation?

I need to be more active. By the way, it’s not my weight & body image that I’m worried about, it’s heart disease and other health problems. At first, I’m really motivated, but like a week later, I’m lazy to keep it up even though I know I need to. After a while of being inactive, the cycle starts again. I’m irresponsible & this cycle happens for other things like taking care of pets, or getting good grades. Yes, I’m a procrastinator. How do people have long-term motivation?

I keep thinking things about my friends like, oh i wish i was as popular as her, i wish i was confident like her etc and it’s really getting me down. When i really think about it i am happy with who i am and my lifestyle. I just wish i could stop comparing myself and becoming jealous, and just see myself as just me, a good person.

We all have our up and down days, but to me the very notion of having an “up” day seems pretty unrealistic. I cannot really explain this feeling that I have but I am afraid of being happy because that I try to even think positive, something negative always comes up and overshadows it. Since this apparently isn’t going to stop anytime soon I just deliberately think about depressing things so that I won’t be afraid or disappointed. But are there any better methods for overcoming this fear?
