I think humans have been spiritual beings for a long time but have not always had organized religion. What are your opinions on the difference between the pagan/indigenous/nature based spiritualities and organized religions of today? What do you think the effect of these different ways of being in the world has had on the earth?

Doesn’t each atheist have a moral responsibility to protect the weaker, vulnerable members of society from the tyranny and oppression of organized religion? Being an atheist is not all fun and games, you know; it comes with responsibilities. We are all part of a community and the stronger members (atheists) need to look after the weaker members.

Say what you believe in, if anything. I’m really interested in hearing from the people who believe in God, but don’t really claim a certain religion. Tell me what you think about it. I think it helps in many good ways and the fellowship is great if you find the right people, but I don’t agree with some of the doctrine and sometimes I wonder where they get some of the ideas from.. I’m thinking about leaving the organized part. What do you all think of it?

Just curious, as this topic has come up a lot in conversation with me lately.
I personally don’t believe in organized religion for any belief system. I believe that when it becomes a hierarchy corruption will surely follow. Not to stereotype anyone but I see this predominantly in Catholicism but I think that’s simply because it has a larger and more complex structure than most religions.
If you could give me your opinion and the reasoning behind it, it would be much appreciated.

Do you view too much self-improvement and individualism as selfish or “secular”? If so what would you much rather do?
How does your religion or lack of contribute to your views on that (if at all)?
