To Go To Anger Management Or No?
Im in the Air Force and recently my supervisor asked me if I would enroll in anger management classes voluntarily. He needs an answer by Friday. My first shirt and commander are the ones pushing it. If i refuse to enroll voluntarily, can they do anything else?

well lets see……
do you like your career? and if you were told to do it voluntarily i am assuming that you should go ahead and just do it. it might just help you in the long run. and if they are really pushing for you to go why not do it? it might just be a sign that you really do need anger management. hope this helps.
I would recommend signing up for the class and see how the situation plays out. This will take the pressure off of your supervisor from the First Shirt and Commander. No idea what the incident was that landed you in “hot water” with the Higher ups (Supervisor / Shirt / Commander) but it might be helpful to attend and vent with someone who is not in your chain of command.
Sounds like this class is taught by Life Skills (Mental Health) and they have a doctor/patient confidentiality guideline to follow.
The commander can order you to go to this class if you refuse to voluntarily enroll in it.
Best of luck
Hmmmmmm.
Do you like the Air Force or not?
Usually when you turn down the ‘helping hands’ of 1st Shirt and Skipper, you can pretty much count on getting dicked when you screw up thereafter.
DUDE, go to the class. Maybe you have a small problem that can be handled in this manner.
Article 15s are a B-tch!
Well, they’re obviously looking out for your best interest and trying to get you to see something that perhaps you don’t see…and get you some help before something really negative happens.
Do you think you have anger issues? Have there been issues at work or at your home/dorm?
Basically, they can’t do anything but wait until you explode and say or do something stupid, like yelling at your supervisor, NCOIC or OIC or worse, get in a fight at the club on base or at work. Then you’ll probably lose a stripe and be in a world of s#!t.
So, right now, it’s up to you. If you refuse and something happens, don’t expect any sympathy or support from your chain of command…right now they’re on your side and trying to get you to better yourself.
I knew a guy who was told if he did not go to alcoholics anonymous voluntarily, he would not be promoted. Well, he went and was not promoted because he was in an alcohol treatment program. He left after 14 years of service without his promotion.
You need to ask yourself why they are pushing you to get help.
I think you ought to go if you care about your career or future.
You are going either way……………
