Many times when someone is suffering from low self-esteem, there is some kind of disorder involved. Often an anxiety disorder or some form of depression. This isn’t something that should scare you because it is suspected that approximately 26% of people in America suffer from some kind of diagnosable mental disorder, many of which are common like depression, social anxiety disorder, general anxiety disorder, etc. Generally if you don’t have confidence in yourself it’s from a lack of social experience and positive relationships. EVERYONE can find a niche in the world and can become self confident in who they are, as long as they can get out there and find people like them. No matter what you look like, someone will tell you that your beautiful and make you believe it. No matter how smart you are, someone out there will make you feel smart. Do you see where I’m going with this? I grew up with little to no self confidence in the way I thought others would perceive me. As far as the way I saw myself, I thought I was a great person who had so much potential to form great relationships. I just didn’t think anyone else would see the same thing. I would talk to someone about this. I’m sure that it is either a biochemical issue or something in your life triggered these thoughts. There is always help. I would talk to a professional about it. It’s not a bad thing. I have never been happier since I was able to open up to someone about it. There are also medications that relieve anxiety and depression if that is the problem.
Hope that helps.

Therapy can help you understand the roots of your low self-esteem and deal with them directly. It is often extremely helpful. It’s also possible that you have low-grade depression. A therapist can screen for that.

think of the things you’ve done that you are proud of. you can write them down if you want. stick it on your wall or somewhere you can refer to it when you are having a bad day. i hope you feel better soon :)
