What Are Some Realistic, Achievable Goals For A Software Developer To Set For Themself?
I work as a developer for a company, and as part of a new performance quality system they are implementing, they have us choose the goals we will achieve during the coming year. They prefer them to be explicit, and concrete – something that can be measured, or verified. I have a few, including taking a course on SAS, and continuing to support apps I have created, as well as develop ad hoc reports as requested. Do you have any ideas for some others? I greatly appreciate any input you may have. Thanks….

start a self evaluation program.
develop a diagnostic system that indicates areas in need of improvement.
draw up a simple worksheet to Analyze and track work flow.
develop a system that projects future demands and weaknesses.
(note: these are all managerial type programs, not computer programs)
“performance quality system”?
Wow, that’s too much to ask. You typically sacrifice performance for quality and quality for performance, but making a system to achieve both is incomprehensible to me.
But for a goal, I’d presonally focus on performance rather than quality. I’d evaluate one procedure at a time and see how to improve the production time using those procedure. To me, if you can buy someone time, they can devote that time to check their work, which the byproduct is an improvement in quality.
I’m no sure if this can apply to your line of work, but my answer is related more on what I do.
