I think that you are thinking of RUDY with Sean Astin. This film teaches us that when we have a goal that we set our mind to, we should not let anyone interfere or tell us that we cannot do it. Rudy was constantly ridiculed by his family when he was younger and in high school, was told by his teachers that he did not have the grades to attend Notre Dame or any high profile school. Not being able to go on that field trip to the campus caused him to re-evaluate things and he saw that he had to step it up and get REAL in order to make his dream come true.
He got into Notre Dame when he was a Junior and didn’t actually make it to the football team until his senior year. So basically he waited his WHOLE LIFE to achieve that goal. As for the playing in the game part…. You are not officially recorded as a team member unless you make a play so although in uniform it didn’t count. He was only on the field for about two minutes, maybe less. The coach only let him go on the field cause the defense was able to clear the ball and score enough points that it wouldn’t really make or break the team if he took the field. It also helped that the entire stadium was shouting this name. GREAT MOVIE… I have it.
would you like some facts first of all?
the movie told the part about him geting to play all wrong. (well thats hollywood for ya)
the coach was interviewed about this and he said that he supported Rudy, (he never went into why he let him play) and that if the team had tried giving up their jerseys, they would have been cut from the team also.
I believe he was 21 when he played that 1 game.
as for Goals
I think the greenskeeper (based on several people) said it best (this was a real conversation i have found out)
“I wanted to run out of that tunnel and onto the field in front of my family and everyone else. to prove that…..”
“Prove WHAT?”
“That i was someone”
“Oh your so full of it… your 5ft nothing… 100 and nothing..and you have barely a speck of athletic ability.. And you’ve hung with the best football team in the league for 2 years…. and your about to walk out of here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame… In this wold, you have nothing to prove to anyone… but yourself”
i dont think any truer words have ever been said.
Also,
the time he spent on the field was two plays as the movie told.
He actually did do a quarterback sack, and everyone supported him.
