What is so wrong about not having any goals in life?

6

I’ve always believed in the notion of destiny, and that life will take care of itself..It used to but not anymore. I’ve never set any goals, and devised any plans to reach them. Lately, I’ve come to the realization that I’m lucky to obtain a bachelor degree, and have a job, and be able to lead a life. I went to a college ‘cauz I found its catalog in my mailbox. I majored in mathematics, not knowing I want to do with it. I took a tons of private loans to finance my education, with the hope that I will eventually get a great job to pay it back. I’m now 25 years old, and I still haven’t figure out what I want to do with my life. I honestly don’t know where I’d like to be one, two, three or five years from now. For one thing, I know that I have to change that mindset. I have to set goals, but that’s something we have developed over the years. And that’s something we find within. I’ve always done things as they come along. I was quite satistied with everything. But lately, I’ve been having that feeling of emptiness. I’ve never had any passions or showed any enthusiasms about anything. I was hoping that one day I would wake up, and things would just change. I know that the problem is within, and I’m the only one who can fix it..Has anyone felt that way, and was able to change? or has anyone known someone who felt the same way, and was able to change? Life is supposed to have a purpose..and make it meaningful one needs to have goals, and set plans to reach them..I’m not suicidal or depressed, but I dont wanna reach that point. I’m doing all I can to be reasonable and happy..but I can’t keep living like this.

It sounds like your goal is to be reasonable and happy! When you went to college, your goal was to pass the course. I think if you look at things in this light you will realise that you did have goals but maybe not acknowledged them. We all do things for a reason even if we dont realise it, there is usually something in it for us, even if thats to see a loved one pleased with us. Might be worth identifying wat has hanged in your life to make you feel empty…….. is it that the course has fnished? Sounds like there may be some kind of “loss” which has triggered the way you feel.

Well, admitting and seeing that you have a problem is the first step to changing it. If you have no sense of direction, emptiness and doubt, you might be suffering from depression or other personality imbalances. Depression has many faces. Get help from a psychologist. There is also medicine out there that is quite effective. I know from personal experience. Life doesn’t just happen. If you have no goal, how do you think you’ll know which direction to go and how to reach it. Talk to your psychologist about your Bachelor’s. They are trained professionals that will “analyze” you and will show you sides of the story that you haven’t seen before. By the way, show me anybody who truly knows the purpose of life. This question belongs to the philosophers. And they can’t even answer it.

whatever you dont choose someone else will choose for you..or wont. ive reached a similar part of my life where before i was on autopilot coping with life with alcohol and now its like whoaa welcome to decisions decisions damnnn. the only thing i can give you as far as hope is for the future is that when you do acheive your goals looking back you can say “it was hard and it was worth it” because you’d undoubtedly be doing something hard if your going for it at all and you’d be living a life of luxury. it doesnt matter wat the goals are i dont think as long as your pursuing them. sitting around hoping saying “nah ill get to it later, later later, then tommorow never comes”. also to never give up on goals either cause theres a lot of people who think a goal will satisfy their neverending desire but u wont even be capable of not desiring until your 61. being able to handle the voice of desire is a talent. its like the one aspect of life that you have free will over. which desire do i satisfy? i could satisfy them all and be a hedonist or pick and choose or i dont know. one thing is for sure tho: you will get to that point tho if you dont change.
