What is the motivation for being a thief or vandal?

6

Earlier tonight, while visiting my girlfriend, my car was broken into and my Cd player faceplate and ipod were taken, the radio itself was going to be taken, but someone must have scared off the person. I’m curious, what is the motivation for something like this? Can someone be so hard up for money, that they do this? Is it for fun? I was raised to earn what you want and respect other’s property. What is going on in the head’s of people who steal from others?

I think its that the person feels cheated, he/she probably grew up in a bad home and feels he/she needs to get back at the world, all most like thier punishing you.

They don’t like to pay their way so they make everyone else pay. They live in a gimme world. Someday they will pay the price.

There are different reasons. Most of these things are done out of a motivation for money. Sometimes there are no other opportunities available, and so desperate measures are taken. I know what that feels like because I have been looking for a job for over two years now, and no matter who I apply to or what I do, I just cannot find anything. I’m not advocating theft; I’m just saying I can understand their motives. There are people going through really hard times with nothing going for them and nothing to lose, so they resort to the only path available to them. Crime is just as big of an indictment against society as it is against the individual.

it could be for many reasons, such as:

need to steal things to sell for Drugs money
Needs to steal to get medicine for themselves or family
Cannot get enough money honestly to feed and provide for family.

It could be related to a personality disorder, where the thief believes soley that if he/she does not steal or vandalise, then something terrible will happen, or, i believe this is the right disorder, in Schizophrenia, the thief is tempted and taunted to do it by a hallucination.

Or Some people do it just because they CAN.

vandilising, eg grafiti, is normally done to make a statement and to prove that the law cannot get everyone.

this is just off of the top of my head btw.

There is a lot of motivations, they could be a drug addict looking for money for a fix. They could also need money to feed their family because they lost their job. They could also be motivated by the though that they just don’t like you, so that is their way of hurting you.

The only reason people repeat behavior is because it’s worked for them before. And, no, I don’t get it either.
