What Type Of Funeral Service Is Avail To One Who Believes In God But Not Organized Religion?

11

i truly believe in God however the fact that i think all religions(organized) are a bunch of horse doodoo in which the few use to control the masses makes me wonder what type of service will be provided to me when it is my time? i mean its like the majority of the world is under some hypnotic state like a bunch of sheep following the head master? Am i the only one who sees the light?

I understand what you mean about organized religion. Don’t worry, the funeral directors have a list of Ministers that will gladly perform the ceremony for a small fee. It won’t be any problem.

If its something you want to plan ahead and discuss with someone who you trust to be responsible then you can have pretty much what you like. There are nondenominational and Unitarian Universalist ministers who would probably be willing to conduct such a service. Humanists also have a program that has people trained to perform ceremonies such as weddings, baby welcomings, and funerals and that might not be inappropriate for you although secular humanists don’t usually hold a positive belief in a god they are supportive of each individuals choices and belief. You can decide what elements you want to incorporate and write up your wishes and let someone know you have done so. You can have something at a funeral home, your or someone else’s house, or somewhere significant and special to you. Otherwise you will probably get whatever the people who plan and coordinate it think is appropriate and it will likely more reflect their beliefs.

I agree with the responder who suggested connecting up with the Unitarian Universalists. The church follows some reasonable principles but it is non-credal. That means some members identify themselves as Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Pantheists, Pagan, Atheists, and who knows what else. They respect other people’s beliefs. I’m a nonviolent anarchist (atheist) who does not believe in organized religion, but I attend a Unitarian church led by a Buddhist minister. The Unitarian minister will respect your beliefs during the ceremony.
If you want to minimize the cost to your widow/widower/family, then you might consider a body donation program at a major university. Some charge for body transportation costs, others do not. It will save your loved ones about $10K in funeral expenses (at a traditional funeral home).
Who wants stinkin’ flowers anyway? (They are likely contaminated with insecticides from South America anyway, likely DDT)

Many ministers perform funeral services for those that are arrogant misguided people who are antagonistic towards religion.
Personally, I am not a member of any organized religion, I am a Mennonite. I will gladly do your funeral service. You might be an excellent example of a bad example.

Since your notion of god doesn’t care what happens to your body, it’s your call.
I suggest Cremation, as it takes up far less room and saves money for those left behind.
Donating your body to science and medicine is also a good choice.

You could probably find a non-denominational minister willing to do a service, or not have one that is led by any one person in particular, but rather a gathering of all those who care about you, sharing stories.

You are really clever…..ranting that has nothing to do with the question.
If you are an American you can find and do whatever you want religiously…..that’s one of the things we’re all about.

QUEST? @ 5:11 am #

take a look at the Unitarian Universalists.their major requirement is that you think.

mfg? @ 9:22 am #

Fireball @ 11:33 am #

zee zee @ 5:13 pm #
