I’ve noted some ads that are like that, and heard horror stories about some.

I have never worked with an office with this necessity on their ad. I think this requirement is already understood before one gets to apply for a job. I would say it is quite suspicious to have a boss who allows this kind of ad be written under his or her name. So, I would take extra precaution applying if I were you.

I think it just means to have a friendly, upbeat, or cheerful demeaner with customers. It probably is like in a sales or telemarketing type business, where you always have to be really “Nice” all the time or speak with a “Smile in your voice” if it is phone related!
In other words, if you are not normally a bubbly, outgoing, brainless person, then you got to constantly pretend if you even remotely want to keep the job!

In my experience this means that you are going to have to take some crap and they want you to pretend you like it. The company’s job posting person my know that you will have a mean boss, midless co-workers or whatever. Just make sure that you posess this skill and take everything in stride.

It means YOU have to have a good attitude! It has nothing to do with the workplace!!

It means you must have a good attitude everyday at work if you are the chosen one.

I agree to a certain extent to Joy RP. The Positive attitude is implied once you get hired. I mean, who wants to work around annoying, bitchy, negative people? Besides the demoralizing effect they have on the others working there, the producitvity of any business is slowed significantly.
If you are constantly late, calling in sick, fighting with customers and/or co-workers, who needs you?
So the Positive Attitude thing is just a determinant of how you will get along and how productive you will be. The better the attitude, the better the pay and satisfaction with the job.

I think it probably means that they’ve seen both and would prefer happy people, who are happy to have a job and willing to work without complaining.
