When Did Working For A Living And Self Improvement Come To Be Considered “greed”?

11

I received an answer from someone who said working was greedy. I just see it as normal. I can’t imagine any other way to live.

The left’s agenda must rely on the “perception” of “greed” in order to rally support for their policies.
Who was it that said ” White man’s greed puts a world in need” ?
oh yea, that was our President.
Fueling wealth envy fosters an emotional reaction, not an objective one, to push for their “economic justice” agenda. The fact that by attacking those that support their entitlements, they are biting that hand that feeds them.. That never enters their thoughts.
Look, as a politician you can’t run around saying you want a massive expansion of government power and control. But, if you fuel angst against the “wealthy or successful” by saying that they have “taken” things from you, why then you could get support for just about any agenda.
They will still support despite the fact that 40 years of the Government’s “war on poverty” has done nothing but keep people there
The Democrats agenda needs victims in order to survive, and the “victims” believe that they need government to improve their life.

If it’s greed, it’s decreed greed. See Genesis. After the fall, man was driven from the garden and told he must work for his living.
So, God wants, whatever kind of greed might be entailed in working for a living, well, at least He wants it now, that man has shown himself so rebelious and disobedient.
Ivan Boeski (one of the most fiendish swindlers that Wall Street even knew) used to say, “Greed is good.”
Although in Ivan’s case this was clearly a self-serving personal justification and rationalization, it is not entirely false.
Adam Smith, the original Chronicler of capitalism, said much the same thing. He said that the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker don’t bring their products to market out of a solicitous concern for the general well being of all mankind. No, they do that, because to personal desire to gain a profit by so doing.
The market as a whole, is based on millions of actors, each acting for their own well being and personal profit. Yet there seems to be an invisible hand (a phrase never used by Adam Smith, but I’ll use it here) that guides the whole market to serve the whole of the people.
In modern mathematics we call this “emergent order”. To know more study the computer game called “Life”. Also read Polyani on the Tacit Dimension, and Polya on Plausible Inference, and Bayes on Retrospective analysis of causal relations.
Short answer: Always by communists, Never by intelligent people.

The MobFather ……. WoW were in the heck have you been? For 8 years ? What You speak of sounds like what we went through. I don’t know what the out come of this current Pres. is go to be. But GREED sure was the out come of the last !,2,3,4 and so on. People need to stop blaming each other. And make the people in power held accountable for what they do. So your blame of a group of people is wrong. Lets start at the top and if they don’t do whats best for America. From Jobs,Taxes(not paid),hiding money (so they don’t pay taxes),Tax’s breaks for moving job over sea(or other country’s). i’m sure you and i could be here for days heck weeks. We have to demand better from the people we put in charge.

Being the best you can be and earning as much money as you can is normal.
What is greedy is destroying people’s lives in the pursuit of obtaining more money than one could possibly spend in several lifetimes.

BOOM @ 2:01 am #

Working doesn’t make you greedy just as helping others doesn’t make you a socialist.

Anonymous @ 4:32 am #

That makes about as much sense as a Republican trying to justify their ill gotten gains – to themselves of course, because no-one else would believe them.
