Who Has The Best System For Keeping Their Mail Organized?
I have problems keeping my mail organized. We get so much! As I am sure everyone does. We have credit card bills, medical bills, house bills, car payments, insurance payments, junk mail, coupons etc etc…
I can’t seem to keep it organized. I have a small file cabinet for things. But, I am just wondering if anyone has a great system for organizing the mail to keep it from piling up on the countertops. Please share. Thanks.

First thing to remember is to go through your mail near a trash can and throw away junk mail immediately. Throw away envelopes that bills come in and place bills in a slotted organizer of some kind and keep in open view.
Use that filing cabinet. Make files for everything.
Household – Rent/payment, Utilities
Car – Documents, Insurance
Banking – Statements
Family Documents – Birth Certificates, Social security cards
Purchases – Furniture, Electronics, Cell Phone, etc.
Income Tax – W-2’2, etc.
I had the same problem till not too long ago. I made myself sit down and organize, finally. What a relief it is. It’s so much easier to find things now, and you have a clutter-free counter. Good luck.
yeah it would be nice if we all had the money to pay all our bills as they come in wouldn’t it ?
I have about 6-7 letter trays (in bins) piled up on my desk
the top one is for bills due, thing to be done,
the next one would be for lesser than top priority etc
i have one for filing to be done, one for things to address SOMETIME when i can, and so on.
at this point most of the mail i recieve is junk mail so i try to go thru it when i get home and throw out as much as possible.
for the most part, everything else i pay online so there is no paperwork, no mail, and i always get reminders (like i would forget to pay my mortgage ! hahaha).
if you’re behind in organization, you might want one of those little mail slot holders that are labeled 1-31 for days of the month. then when your mail comes in, open it, dispose of all the extra crap. staple the envelope to the bill and put it in the apprpriate date slot (when you should mail the bill to get it there on time or when the bill is due if you’ll pay it online or over the phone).
I usually just pay it when it comes then you don’t have to worry about it piling up. Pay it then shred it!
Well, it’s good to keep these documents without shredding because you might need them. I have a drawer where I put all my stuff for the week. In the weekend, I sit down for an hour or so and go through them, pay necessary bills. I have one drawer in my file cabinit with folders for each type of documents, such as Mastercard bills, telephone bills, etc. I put the letters in their appropriate folders for archive. I always make sure I have finished with them before putting them in the folder or else I might forget to pay a certain bill. I’ve been doing this for years and works just fine for me.
well i bought a wooden mail holder and it hangs on the wall. since i cant pay my bills when they come i go by pay checks. since im bi-weekly i take all bills that need to be paid with that check in the first slot and with then next check the other ones. u should know by now on the dates when they are due since all bills stays the same every month other then a day or 2. as for coupons buy a coupon holder. junk mail goes right to file 13 as soon as i get it. but if its a credit app. or those other things about cashing the check it goes to the shread page that hangs in the closet. and if u can get ur car payments taking right out of ur account one less bills u have to worry about there. just make sure the money is there on that date and take it out of ur check book.
I found a 3 tier rack & hung it on the wall by my door. I used one box for bills to be paid (kept them in my line of sight each time I went out the door), one for magazines & catalogues), and the other for bank statements, & all of that other stuff.
I don’t have room for a file cabinet, so I use one of those 12 month accordian files. Once I pay the bill it goes right into the file, same with the bank statement once I reconcile.
As far as all of those credit card & refinance offers? Burn or shred them. You don’t want someone else to take one of those out on your behalf.
Good luck!
I would make piles of the bills, sort them out by the time they need to be paid, what kind of bills they are, etc… use a shoe box, that is a good way of keeping everything sorted out, same with reciepts, come tax day it is easy to take care of everything
