Why Do I Let People Affect My Attitude?
Although I have never met you before, you have thrown me for a loop and instead of sustaining a positive attitude I will spiral downward and let it affect the way I interact with other people even though they have nothing to do with it. Is there a way to stop this from re-occuring and live in the present instead of dwelling on negative encounters from the past?

choose not to let it effect you
Yes, there is. I’m currently attending a psychiatric day program at a local hospital. One of the primary focuses of this program is called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the basic idea for which is that thoughts, behaviors and feelings are all linked together. Usually, the process of going from one to the other occurs at lightning speed, but it can be slowed down for better analysis at a later point in time. When you slow the process down, it can become easier to change. The aspect of slowing down the process effectively and analyzing what goes wrong (or what goes right) is called “mood monitoring”.
I couldn’t find a lot of information about mood monitoring online for you, but I did find one reasonably good source. Also listed below is a website outlining cognitive behavioral therapy. I hope these help out. By the way, I’m just learning about this stuff myself being in a psychiatric day program for the last few weeks.
It’s not really “you” who are getting affected. It’s just an illusion. Nothing you can observe is truly who you are, because all those things come and go. Good question though.
