Why Do Men Still Feel Happy To See A Girl Years Or Months Later, But Aren’t Bothered Seeing Her In Between?

I’ve met a few men who don’t call very often, live abroad, don’t phone at the girl’s birthday/Christmas/New Year, but are still willling and happy to see her again. Why can men be so dettached and yet keep some kind of feeling after a long time?
